It seems that most of the pack shells are made fo wood,fiberglas or vacuum formed abs plastic so why are shels normally made of resin? Is it too weak w/o the fiberglass cloth? Is there a resin you could use to make shells?

HA HA HA She did say that…So any alternatives to shells besides fiberglass as far as molding and casting go?
Fiberglass is a resin, just the appropriate type for this kind of mold up… Urethane casting resins would fall short in most cases as they are not designed for this…
Also consider that most of the time there is a thin coat of casting resin applied to the mold prior to the fiberglassing to get better details in the finish… So in essence you have a casting resin shell backed with fiberglass resin for strength…
Yeah there are some casting resins that would probably work OK, but why bother when you know that fiberglass works? You certainly won’t save any money vs. quality in the end…
