Hello, I am a total noob when it comes to electrical stuff. I am trying to setup wiring from the battery to a Kill switch to the GBFans board. Question is what kind of wiring do I use? Is there something specific or gauge? Thanks
Probably not enough amps and short enough wire to matter much. But nothing wrong with going too big. Just do 12 gauge. Your buying so little, price isn’t a big deal.
I generally use 22 gauge for the 3-12V stuff. Anything thicker is overkill & a pain in the ass. It’s all low amperage usually so… it’ll be fine.
The distance isn’t a factor, at most a foot or two. If you are wiring from one end of a car or boat, it makes a difference.
To really disconnect the battery, use a DPST (Double Pole, Single Throw) switch. Positive on one side, negative on the other. “Off” will completely disconnect the battery.
There are rare instances where leaving the negative connected to the battery and electronics while charging can confuse the charger. Never fully charges or overcharge, damaging the battery. Simple (cheap) chargers will throw 15V or more across a 12V battery, counting on the battery to pull down the voltage as it reaches full charge. This higher voltage could damage electronics that have a very narrow input.
For a just a bit more cost, a DPDT (double throw) switch will allow you to fully isolate the electronics while charging. Connect the battery leads to the center terminals. Electronics to one end, leads from your charging socket on the other.

funny enough, according to the welcome kit, the button next to the orange hat light on the barrel of the wand is a emergency kill button.
