Just wanted to let you all know that I’ve been doing a few updates to my website www.cylandprops.com to include some more props used in the Ghostbusters movies and even including the Sony Convention Proton Packs. Included are:
The L.I.S. Latent Image Sensor, the gyro arc frame item that Venkman carries during the GB2 montage.
The P.D.N.'s ,Pyschic Disturbance Neutralizers also improperly know as the Tripod Traps.
These Sony Convention Packs are abominations. I can name 20 people on this board, without really thinking about it, that would’ve made better packs in an afternoon. And I’m not even talking about the accuracy.
That pack(and im sure the others too) is made using a loveusmokey/midwestpropshop/145will shell purchased from ebay.
mind blowing that the company that owns the rights to the movie and has countless reference pics and access to real screen used props, would build something that looks like that.

You have great pics of the Psychic Disturbance Neutralizer and Latent Image Sensor ( good naming there by Starska ) not to mention some really obscure references to other shows. Honestly, I’ve never noticed these things in the backgrounds of any of these other shows or movies. I’m so impressed at catching that. It kind of gets me to thinking about building a Psychic Disturbance Neutralizer at some point.
Lovin’ it Fifth! Not that I enjoy talking about the convention packs, but if we must shouldn’t it also be mentioned about one of their involvements in Zombieland?
But, and I say this in all honesty, they are a Sony sanctioned pack like it or lump it. I put them in the same catagory as the Universal Studios Packs. Presented on my website for posterity and a record of fact.

I’ve got two V-rings just need two more, a power box, lights, tripods etc… Latent Image Sensor was my words to fit Starska’s sugestion of it having the intials L.I.S. . One of my buddies had a problem with the word latent since it is used with another word and I just had to say "dude, really? " . And catching it in Big Bang Theory was just a fluke since it’s just hanging out on a shelf in one of the guy’s bedrooms which makes me wonder , why?

Yes, and I agree wholeheartedly. It must be recorded for posterity. To show that fans can do a better job than the studio. But, like Kind said, it’s mind-blowing. It’s less accurate than the Matty packs, for chrissakes.
Nevertheless, your website is amazing. Keep sharing those great reference pictures! And don’t mind grouchy types like me.
Interesting piece but without finding what the frame is I don’t think I would even start. I played with it years ago at MP and it’s mostly metal like most of the newer props there.
I wouldn’t say that it’s less accurate just about as wrong all those boxes are not tappered, the hoses are way out of scale, the crank is flat, the elbows are not elbows, the split loom is way too pointie , and the mile long thrower hose I could go on. Don’t get me wrong I love the Mattel toys but they could be more accurate.
My point was that the 1/6" scale pack was prettier than the full scale one. I think that the small pack is impressive. But the Sony one… Anyway, you get my drift.
Oh the money Sony could make if they produced these things the way other companies cough up millions of Star Wars toys. Oh course they’d never be as good quality as homemade I suppose.
