aluminum thrower build UPDATE 8/5

hey guys,

just wanted to start by saying thanks to tim (■■■■■■) and john (namebrand) for putting up with my question on machining aluminum haha. im slowly going to be building the thrower out of aluminum and i got a good start on it today.

here are some shots of my trigger box. was a little tricky but not that bad. i may make a few more just to see if i can get it a little closer to perfect

next are some pics of the rear cylinder. i still have to put the bigger disc at the end. would have just gotten a bigger peice of aluminum but i dont have any way to turn it down and make the bigger flat section :walterpeck:

this is the front cylinder or palm rest. pretty simple..hack off a couple inches of aluminum rod and square up the ends. also i drilled the center and tapped it for a 1/4 -20 bolt. that way i can just attach it from inside the gun body.

and finally, here are some pics of the rear instrument bar and handles all layed out together.

so far im off to a good start i think. if you see anything that needs improvement or should be changed let me know!!

thanks

jim

thats looking great! i respect anyone who works with metal in this way so much.

thanks nick..this is my first time working with metal in this respect. ive done various projects with metal but not a whole lot like this. its a lot of fun so far

simply amazing! keep up the good work!

wow. My hero!

Sal

oh man, i cant wait to see more progress pics

Holy crap, you have been busy Jim! Looking good so far man. Keep those pics coming!

thanks for all the compliments guys! im hoping to get some more done in the next week or so. ill post pics as soon as i can! i just ordered some aluminum flat bar and plan to make the gun track…just gotta wait for the mail.

thanks

jim

Jimbo7,

Most impressive.

What tools have you used to cut and shape the parts? I’m especially curious what you used to hollow out the trigger box.

I’d love to work more in metal. So far, I’ve been limited to tin snips, dremel and a drill press.

Looking forward to your answers and more progress pics.

Ted.

Prefect42.

Fuck!!

I knew full metal guns were coming soon…

I bet your excited.

hey ted,

to shape everything up i just used my bridgeport milling machine at work. i stuck an end mill into the chuck, clamped the metal down and started shaving it all away haha. its actually pretty simple..just cant get too crazy with the depth and have to set the speeds right. other than that its not all that bad. im just hoping to get my flat bar soon so i can make the gun track.

thanks

jim

Soon?

I still have mine I built like 5 years ago…

SHOW PICS!

ok guys,

small update. I spent a good hour or so in the garage today making one of the grips. I wanted to make it out of wood since thats what the hero packs used. It was a major PITA, but it came out pretty good. I was at the point of just chucking it and buying a set, but I kept at it anyway. Now all i have to do is make the second one, bondo over them, sand smooth and paint! :sigh: anyway here are some pics.

Don’t you just love Dremel? What a God given tool!

my dremel is broken :frowning:

great grips! look perfect sitting on the handle!

Amazing job on that handle!

Very nice jimbo, Dremel = Good

thanks for the compliments guys! ive got one more to make, but i think im over the hump since ive got the first one made. decided it was a good idea to get these done while waiting on more aluminum to get shipped to me.

jim

I just scored a dremel out of an impounded car at work(legally)!

jimbo, this is gonna be one amazing thrower
