Well I didn’t really do much today… power tools and hangovers don’t mix, kids! I did potter about with the ribbon cable a bit, but there’s not really much to show for it.

That’s all I was capable of on Saturday. 
Today, a package turned up with parts from GB Fans. Not really worth a picture in itself, but once all the parts are here I’ll take another snap of them all laid out.
If I’m going to build this properly, then a large board on top of two stools in front of the sofa is not going to cut it. I need a proper work space. I have one somewhere. At least, I used to. It’s a long time since I went anywhere near it. Let’s see; up the stairs, in to the spare room and turn right for once…

So that took me a while to clean up. I’ve not used that desk in at least five years, and the dust … oh lord… the dust.
I am convinced this stuff is made of pure cancer.
Eventually I cleared all the fest…
Then gave it all a hoover and a wipe…
So I now have a work bench again. It’s been a while.
I’ll admit I gave up at this point, The will to make more dust after having just cleaned so much of it up just wasn’t with me for some reason. But I now have somewhere slightly more practical to build.

Hehe, nah, both my Ectos sit by the telly where everyone can see them. (I really should get round to converting one in to 1A at some point).

Again, just a small update today. I popped out to Maplins and grabbed a 9V battery lead to test the electronics. The GB fans light kit does exactly what it says on the tin, and Spongeface’s Matty wand interface board was plugged up within minutes. I tested it out, and sure enough, the pack lights respond to the matty wand.
I then put these away as i won’t be needing them for some time.
Quick question, if I may, RE: batteries. I know GB Fans can’t ship the Blue Brick internationaly. I’ve yet to decide what to do for power, but it’d make sense to go for a battery that will still be good when I upgrade to a full sound pack. Can anyone recomend something that’s easy to get hold of in the UK?
Right, so where was I? Ah yes, a clean workbench.
With a pile of proton pack plans, and a bit of mesh I found left over from a Faller roller coaster model. That’ll do nicely for the n filter.
Next I hacked a chunk off the bracket that was clashing with the V hook.
Somehow doing this to the blade…

I’m not sure if they ship to the UK, but since it was referred to me by Julz, who lives in NZ, I would say yes…
Slightly more expensive than the blue brick, but much better… so far, I’ve had it running for over 7 hours, full volume, MP3 powered and playing music, with juice still left…
I was recommended this by a good mate of mine and its never let me down. UK based also
Looks pretty good. How have you wired yours up? I’ve got one of Stevic01’s XLR charging ports on it’s way, and it would be nice to make it functional.
I have a female connector that the battery plugs into which can be bought on the same site. I then wired the female connector with battery wire straight into the GBFans soundboard. It will work with Nathan’s plates as he went through it with me. Mine is a GB2 SemiHero and wanted to stay accurate so didn’t use it
If you decide to order Lithium/Lithium-Ion batteries from overseas, it will always ship by boat, so it’ll be slow. It looks like VS definitely has the best solution

The shell here was much thicker than the other bits I’ve cut so far. Also, some chipping happened. 
Eventually I got so far…
Then decided to start using the sanding drum on my trusty “not-a-Dremel” that has served me well for about 13 years (with the hoover nozzel held in a clamp near by)…
… It just died on me. Now I need to go back to Homebase over the weekend and get a new one.
Did someone say beer o’clock?
I’ve ordered a new real Dremel, but will have to wait a few days for it to turn up.
… would it be asking for trouble to try the small sanding drum in a power drill in the meantime?
It could work but it doesn’t turn the RPMs that a rotary tool can.
