I’m considering putting a 250 mW laser in the Proton Packs I am currently building. Has anyone done this? Has anyone put anything greater than a 5mW laser (laser pointer) in a Proton Pack. This could start fires, blind, etc. I know the risks. I’m gonna put a key saftey in so it can fire with laser and strobing LEDS and with just LEDS.
Why not? Get a couple of 16x DVD burners; depending on the brand they can go up to 400mW.. stick a bunch in there along with a heatsink/heatpipe setup to keep them cool, and go set fire to all sorts of stuff!
That’s exactly what I did. But, I built a circuit for constant current. I don’t get maximum output, which is about 350 mW. I’m going to tweak it for about 300 mW.
I’d love a “Make it into a real weapon” setting on my pack! That would be badass. Some mouthy geek would be all, “Yah, right, what you gonna do, LED me to death?”
At which point I’d burn a hole through his ■■■■■■■ Simpson’s T-shirt.
That’s why you need 4 DVD burner LEDs and 4 Blu-Ray burner LEDs mounted on a barrel assembly just like Exoray’s light kit, each 4 firing in succession. That’ll teach them.
It is fun to muse about doing such things, but all this would do is create havoc for the idiot dumb enough to burn someone with their pack and would cast an incredibly bad shadow over the entire prop Ghostbusters community.
Time will tell Dan. Trails need to be blazed in the name of science and in the name of awesome. I can see it on the news now, “Ghostbuster burns ghost to death… again. Tens of people saved!” But, seriously I’m doing this.
The headlines would read more like, “Mad Scientist Creates Death-Ray; Goes to Prison for Being Awesome, and Murder.”
I considered a Tesla Coil but, how would I ground myself for on the fly demonstrations? Plus, the transformers to step up the voltage would make the pack weigh a ton.
