Every year at Comic-Con they check people’s proton packs as if they were real weapons. I don’t mind them checking my fake firearms when we’re going as Umbrella Corp troopers or something armed, but it’s just plain WEIRD when they have to “peace tie” our proton packs as if they were real working weapons.
If you complete your plan to build a working laser into a proton pack you will screw us all. One day, sooner or later, you’ll get involved in something that brings negative attention to us GB fans. Headline = “Ghostbuster fan accidentally puts out eye of other convention goer”
Word of this mishap will get around. The next year after this happens, I’ll go to Con and the security will no doubt stop us and say “We need to open those up and check for weapons. We heard this one guy actually built a working laser into his pack” or worse yet “Management just doesn’t want to take any chances so until further notice ALL proton packs need to stay outside.”
…at which point I’ll think back to this thread and your plan and say “Thanks BatmanVengeance for screwing us all.” It only takes one guy to ruin it for everyone. You will probably be that guy. Sorry to be such a downer but I’m not enthusiastic about your plan. It just can’t end happily. To make yourself feel good for the short term you will engage in something that harms a larger pool of people for the long term. I don’t see the risk/benefit ratio being even close to worth it.
Just because most of you don’t have common sense doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t. If you want to preach about safety just put it in an email an send it to yourself. I carry a firearm, it doesn’t mean I’m going to shoot someone. I understand that most of the people posting don’t have this “common sense” but some of us can handle it. But, by all means get on that soap box and preach. It falls on ears.
The problem is, that the ‘common sense’ does not com into play with general public. These items already look like they are dangerous, and it really does not need to do any damage to anyone for the reputation go bad. And, accidents DO happen. If you own a fire arm, you should be aware that the most dangerous weapon is ‘unloaded’ weapon in the hands of an ‘expert’.. People really do not know the difference between the harmless light or a harmful when it hits their eyes.
It really is just because people who have this “common sense” you speak of, that the laws and regulations regarding props are strung to high gear. I cannot understand why it is legal to carry a real fire arm, but not an airsoft replica of one, but, I know why this is. People DO NOT KNOW the difference between dangerous light and harmless. And, what they REALLY do not know, is can you handle it. They panic, for no real reason as we know, but the result is negative to us all..
Even if it falls to deaf ears, please, reconsider things, and do not do it. After all, if you would dress up as a police officer, would you really carry your real firearm with you, as you “can handle it”, or do you think it really is any different when you put a potentially dangerous laser to a proton pack…?
Funny that you accuse us of lacking common sense. Common sense is understanding the simple fact that if somebody is hurt, the public will turn against us and the government will hit on us hard. It’s the ones with common sense that understand this. The one without, well, they’ll think that proton pack are real weapons and are dangerous. Because of the one without common sense that built a dangerous weapon with one.
The proton pack on a normal outing has the wand pointed at people during pictures and general moving around. If we are to use your gun logic this means you are okay pointing a loaded fire arm at people as well?
Time will tell, but if someone does bring down the Ghostbusters community I’m glad it will be me. At least it will go out in style. Because this is the end as we know it. It’s the end man, game over! "Technology isn’t intrinsically good or evil. It’s how it’s used. Like the death ray. " -Professor Farnsworth
Just don’t loose any sleep over it. Your dress-up time will continue.
BatmanVengeance, I’m a gun owner as well. Former military, former law enforcement. I’ll out-gun-rights you any day of the week.
Bingo. Give the man a cigar.
And you were trying to convince us that you’re responsible, right? So you shifted from the argument of “I’m responsible and it’s all about the individual” to the argument of “Well then screw you guys, I don’t care who I hurt.” I think you showed your true colors with that last one. You just don’t care who you hurt as long as you get your way. Common sense? Nope, not for you. You don’t care whose community you destroy, the most important thing is you, right? And you were trying to tell us that you’re not selfish and irresponsible like other people would be, right?
Wow, seriously? It’s a laser pointer, my god, it’s not any sort of weapon, it makes a prop from a 25 year old movie that we all love, look functional, you guys should be stoked about this. I am so disappointed in all of you “fans” you’re all just so sad
It’s not “Just a Laser pointer” The type you are planning to use can not only blind a person, but is capable of setting things on fire. Yes, we all love the movie, enjoy the prob building, and like the basic concept.. However, for most of us, safety is more important then “Looking Cool”
According to your original post, you obviously know the cons to this idea (blinding people, starting fires, etc.) In your opinion BatmanVengeance, what are the pros for this idea? To look cool? People are more than impressed that the pack lights up, you don’t need to burn their house down to wow them.
