How do you guys hang your wands on your packs? Or hang them from the belt? This might be a dumb question, but please bear with me, I haven’t found a definite answer.
The Proton Gun is hung on the pack via a flat, V-shaped hook made of sheet metal with a slightly larger V-shaped ‘jacket’ that slides over it. A popular, but non-screen accurate alternative to that is used is a set of dixie V-hooks. You can view the latter type here on Irricanian’s website:
http://www.multimediamayhem.net/partsforsale.htm
For hanging the gun on the belt, a hook of some form is often placed at the back of the gun track.
I’ve seen packs that used Velcro to attach the gun to the pack. Now, that’s really going the easy and cheap route.
Not to mention putting it into the hands of fate and probability.
The v hooks kinda look like this..

The trap hooks kinda look like this..

They can also be welded together instead of separate parts.
Hmm, interesting. Is this something I could find at Home Depot or is it special order only?
What are some alternatives? (Besides velcro, lol)
My pack is currently in the works, but it’s definitely a dollar store design. Anything I do, I want to do cheaply but effectively.
Also, I’ve been wondering, would you guys like for me to post my progress? Or will it be a waste of your time, since this isn’t a 100% movie accurate build?
Thanks!
The only other alternatives other then the dixie style one that was linked and listed above, is ace hardware’s flush mount picture hangers.
They will still run you about $4-$5, but they are secure. Thats what you’ll see if you look at my pack build thread.
The dixie styled ones are at least somewhat close in shape… which is why many people use them.
Please. Don’t use velcro.
seriously don’t use velcro, the wand is quite heavy, what with all the electronics and metal to it. Think about it, why do you think they didn’t use velcro in the films ![]()
if you’re not really interested in accuracy but want cheap and still reliable i would suggest stealing the clip off the back of a measuring tape. then all you need is something for it to hang off of. I have stolen the hanger part off old tool belts and such i find in second hand shops. could even bend one up out of some scrap aluminum.
My pack uses the dixie cup holder. I like the slightly raised profile. I will also use the dixe cup holder for my trap. The raised profile should make hooking the trap onto the holster easier and get around the wheels.
actually Ben its the other way around. The flat male side on the pack is made from machined aluminum and the female side that goes on the bottom of the thrower is made of folded/bent sheet metal.
I need to find a way of attaching the gun to the pack as well. I’d like to use the dixie cup holder brackets, but everywhere I looked, they only have the female part instead of the male. Any suggestions on how to get a set of both? I’d like to get it before halloween and allready got a letter from MultimediaMayhem saying that the deadline for orders before Halloween was Oct ! so I’m SOL on that end, and the other place I’ve looked are sold out.
Another suggestion that I’ve heard was to cut a piece from a broken keyboard rail and use that, but I’m not too sure how well it would hold up either.
Any suggestions/help would be useful.
Check our our builds.. we used flush mount picture hangers.. they aren’t as accurate looking as the dixie ones, but they are readily avsailable at Ace, and they make a satisfying “click” sound when they are replaced properly. (Godo to know they are in all the way.)
Yea. I thought of that. I’ve found a few places that has brackets after a little bit of hunting on the internet, but the dixie cup brackets I’ve seen are only the female end and I need both brackets, not just half the set. I may have to see what I can find though.
I have been looking everywhere for those flush mount hangers, but none of my Ace hardware stores stock them and Home depot has no ideas what I am talking about.
And on the web they only sell them in 10 packs for $30+
Anyone have any other ideas? My Dad thinks I should get a bathroom fixture from plumbing.

Just get a dixie hook from MMM.
i was also wondering how this looks. how does it look on the pack? like where are the attachments? are there any pics of just that side of the pack where the attachment hook is? i also wondered where and how it connects and what it looks like attached to the pack.
Take a look at some of the members prop photo’s here. I’m sure there are plenty.
My Ace has them in stock.. I coulda swore I took pics of the package along with the upc code.. ace can order them for you and get them in in 2-3 days tops, with free shipping.
I’ll check them on my next local run, and post the info here for you.
