im hoping to get exorays sound kit soon but i was wonder which is the best speaker to
use with it?
im hoping to use a 6 to 9 inch car speaker with a decent bass which ones do you guys use
i dont want the sound to be let down by a rubbish speaker,
i expect it to handle the deep bass like in the movies
obviously the main things to consider will be size, power etc
also which way to face it? i plan on putting it behind the cyclotron lights do i face it towards the lights or the other way round and drill some holes in the motherboard and have it face my back?
They only come in pair, don’t they? And that was a really good question about the facing. Towards the cyclotron or the motherboard? (I would quote Fight Club but this is a G-rated forum. ;))
I have one facing each way. There’s one mounted underneath the PCB that the cyclotron lights are mounted on facing out towards the shell, and the other speaker is facing down, towards the motherboard. I also have holes drilled out through the motherboard for the speaker that is facing it.
Now is that the best way to do it? I have no idea but I atleast get alot of surround sound doing it this way, instead of it all being in one direction. I hope that helps a little.
Firstly if you want to use 2 speakers you cannot use car speakers.
Car speakers are 4 ohms limiting you to only one speaker. The best pack I’ve ever heard has 2 4" Bose home speakers at 8 ohms each (totaling 4 ohms).
You want a speaker with a small cone which requires little power if you want it to be loud, the larger the cone the less it will push and the less you’re gonna hear it.
If you face the mobo, you need to drill holes in the mobo so that you can actually hear it, just like Matt did in those photos.
That’s extremely interesting, Vincenzo. Thanks for the info.
So would it be possible to put 2 small 3-way speakers, for example? Or would it be best to put one tweeter and one woofer? Are those home speakers available in 3 or 4-ways?
Whether the speaker is 2-way, 3-way or 6-way it’s still one speaker and is rated as such. In any case it’s kind of wasteful since all we’re playing are mono sound effects recorded at kind of poor frequencies (due to the nature of the chips/ardys).
Here’s a pretty well worded breakdown of “OHM’s” if anyone wants more info.
It is unique because it can handle the pre amplified signal from the www.replicaprops.com sound module. You run the speaker out wires on the sound module to the pins labeled “G” and “WIN” on the amp
Not saying my method is the best way to go, but my pack does sound fantastic…
Here’s how I embeded the 6x9. A hole was cut into the plywood Mobo so I could slip the highs and mids into it and let the woofer sit flush onto the board.
Then I mounted the electronics chip from Replicaprops onto a piece of cardboard with a breadboard foundation.
You can see the 7 watt amp Rob Werden was talking about…or at least the controls here, underneath the injector tubes. There’s a volume knob and a power switch I added so the amp wouldn’t run itself down all day. I just reach back there and turn it on when I want to use the sound, and can adjust the volume without taking off the pack.
My pack’s not the prettiest but I’ve made people jump out of their skins when I powered it up. They’re usually not expecting such a loud rumble coming from a prop!
