Hey guys, I have a ReplicaProps sound kit along with my Proptronix light kit and I was wondering what everyone did to make it louder?
I used the speaker supplied by Replicaprops and added another small one in another location inside the pack but its still not loud enough, has anyone “amped up” their RP setup? Please post what you did and how

It’s plenty loud and runs off the same 12v power supply as my lights so it was perfect. i was even able to make the crank knob the volume control. 
add an amp and MOAR SPEAKERS!!! 
MOAR speakers? Never heard of them are they Japanese :razz:
So you have a Replicaprops sound module and you run it off 12 volts, what power source do you use?

Yeah, I actually run the replica props chip on 2 C-cell batteries and the amp off the main 12v power source.
My current 12v source is a pack of 8 D-cell batteries but I’m upgrading to a 12v li-ion pack. I’m planning to set my pack up with dual power sources (detailed in another thread in this forum).
You need one of these to power the MOAR SPEAKERS!!!
At 1200 watts, it should make your pack slightly more noticeable :mrgreen:
Keep your RP chip on it’s current power source. The 12v goes to the amp that Rockman linked to. You put the chip on the 12v and it’ll asplode! :walterpeck:

I don’t have the money to buy an amp, so I just move closer to the other person/people.

Me and Matt both put the same 7 watt amp in our setups. It gives you a nice volume knob (freeing up the chip for 2 more sound effects) and a power switch if you so choose for the amp so you dont’ drain the battery.
I wish I had room in my crankbox to make the crank generator my volume knob like Rockman, but that’s where I had stuffed my LED sequencer for my pack and gun lights…so I had a knob coming out of one of my Cyclospacer panels and a power switch.
My RP chip runs on 3 AA batteries and has not needed replacement yet in a year of use.
My 7 watt amp runs on a 9 volt battery (though I’m considering a 12 volt power supply to see if it gets even louder).
I use a 3 way 6x9 speaker and in comparison to Matt’s 2 speaker system I found they were about the same volume at the parade. I wish I had taken a closer look at where Matt’s switches and power supply were located…maybe tried it on to see if it really was about the same volume as mine before the sound started to distort.

This is the inside of my gb2 pack I had at dragon con.
I have two 4" 8ohm speakers, one mounted next to the powercell lights facing out through the motherboard, over my left shoulder. The other one is mounted onto the same PCB my cyclotron lights are mounted to. Above the cyclotron lights, you can see my 12v battery (the blue thing) and to the left of them is the 7watt amp, mounted through the motherboard. I have a similar, but “cleaner” set up on my newer pack.
Speaking of my new pack, the next picture is a picture of it but the new pack is a cleaner build and better represents how I think it should be done:
In this picture you can see the holes I have drilled out for the top speaker, along with the AA battery case for my replica sound chip, a master kill switch, the potentiometer from the amp to control the volume and the recharge port for the battery is also mounted through the motherboard; for easy charging.
Now as to the original topic of this thread, adding an amp will increase the volume of your sound. The one issue with the replica props sound chip is it has a .5 watt amperage built into it, so you need an amp that can take a powered audio source. The 7watt amp in my tutorial can handle that. And if you ask anyone that was a Dragon Con who saw and/or heard my pack, they could tell you how loud it is. I have yet to find someone with a pack that is louder.

I think mine was as loud as yours at the setting CJ had it for he parade. Could it go much louder than that? Mine could go another 50 percent louder on the amp, but the sound would start to distort. I believe if I put 12 volts into the amp vs 9 that I’d be able to get it louder and cleaner…eiher that or I used an ohm setting on my speakers that’s not condusive to it going louder and staying clean sounding.

Yeah, it was only at about 50% for the same reason. Any louder and it starts to become distorted. And honestly, its not the chip or the amp’s fault, we as a community need higher quality sound files. And a quick correction, it was Jack wearing my pack 
I thought of gutting one of those small battery operated guitar amplifiers and hooking the sound up to that. Only issue is the amps are expensive.

Ah, yes, Jack Doud, I knew that in the back of my head, but I think CJ was messing with your amp when I got to test it out next to mine.
I still think they’re about the same volume! 
Main difference is yours has 2 speakers vs my one so the wearer of your pack gets sound closer to their head to experience more sound whereas mine has more lows from a larger woofer and they get more of a vibration, but to the observer I think it’s about the same.
