Whats a good way to attach a sound effect to a prop like the proton pack or something smaller?
I just loop some mp3’s on my Ipod, put the Ipod in the speaker case (see attached pic), and velco the case to the inside of the Proton Pack. Can get VERY loud if you want, and only costs $12 if you already have an Ipod.
well a friend of mine suggested gutting one of those greeting cards where you record your own message. thoughts?
Depends on how much sound and what quality you want, They will be cheap but the quality will be poor. Brads option above is a good cheap one, or you can get a cheap MP3 player and hack it.
I always wondered why no one ever did (or could) just take a sound circuit out of a toy with preset sounds and somehow reprogram it to play what they wanted.
http://www.replicaprops.com/cart2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=35&products_id=112 just found this and the site actually has the pack sounds to upload to the sound chip and seem very easy to assemble.
Chris
well im not needing the pack sounds. i mean i do want the activation sound but i actually want the firing sound form the shock blaster from the game
Looks like a winner.
Hey everyone, im the owner of replicaprops.com If any one has any questions about the sound modules, please ask me any questions you have.
One of your members told me about this forum and I thought it would be a good idea to register here to help people out with any technical questions they may have.
My email is [email protected]
Thanks
Rob
It looks like a very nice sound kit. Why must it be .wav files instead of .mp3?
Is it easy to assemble? Would you need to be experienced in electronics to attach a speaker and a toggle switch?
Hey Rob, I am curious about what one would need speaker and amp-wise to get a really convincing sound out of your kit.
Would you ship to the UK and if so how much would it be please?
damned good idea! thanks bro
This is an old school way of doing things. WAV files while old require less computer power to decode and play, thus less problems when it comes to serving up the user requested file. The whole point to the modules is to play sounds with no bells and whistles. Well a couple bells, but definitely no whistles, unless you want a whistle sound.

There are so many possibilities. if your space is open in a proton pack, I would suggest going with a battery powered amplifier and a nice 50 watt speaker. On of your board members here works for a consumer electronics chain store and I think he is going to test his module on different amp and speaker sizes to see which one rocks.

Yes, but I would suggest if there are other members out side the USA, you do a group buy to share the shipping cost.
I can ship you dozens of modules for the flat rate shipping cost of $24. A few years back I used to use airmail and it was so unreliable I had to stop using it. At least with EMS they give you a tracking number.

I purchased a sound chip from Rob today, he has been very helpful walking me through and trying to get me exactly what i need for the pack sounds and also for it to work in line with other light kits. This should be very easy and not complicated at all, ill keep everyone posted on the progress of how this comes out.
Chris
That sounds very interesting!!!
And thanks to Rob for chiming in and provide customer support!
I might have gone that way if I’d known earlier. I ordered some Arduino stuff to set up my sounds.
Props to you, Rob!

As you wish.
First thing that comes to mind is the sound effects of the Proton Pack when firing. I like that for each sound you can add another switch, that’s perfect. However there’s 1 situation I’d like to know if it can be modified for a certain switch.
It would be the Firing sequence. When firing it’ll make the sound of the Proton Gun shooting the stream, BUT once done firing one would release the button and there would then need to be a “powering down” sound required. So the pushing and holding (opening) of the button would activate the firing sound, and the releasing (closing) of the button would need to activate the powering down sound.
Found an example on Youtube. Don’t know who’s pack or light/sound kit this is.
@1:14 into the video he presses and holds down the button to activate the firing sound
@1:33 into the video he releases the button and it activates the powering down sound
Meph i’ve already inquired with Rob with this specific question, if you have a light kit from Proptronix or Exoray youll have to replace the firing switch with a DPDT Momentary push-down switch. Rob has already programmed my chip to do this exact effect, hes looped the firing sound and when you release with the specific switch it will play the power down sound.
