wat type of speaker should i be using. i want it to be loud enough to heard or even adjustable. would a car speaker work lol? im going to try to hook a extra line so i can play the whole soundtrack on a cheap mp3 player
In the DIY sound thread by MattBurkit? I think, he recommends some speakers. I believe they are 4 inch woofers that are 8 Ohms. I believe most car audio speakers are woofers and tweeter combos, but most are 4 Ohms.
So the question is:
Does that matter?
4 Ohm vs. 8 Ohm?
Does anyone have any more information or a link to a topic that discusses Ohms further?
The amp that I recommend puts out 8 ohms. So you can use 1 8 ohm speaker or 2 4 ohm speakers in parallel. It’s up to you but that’s why I recommended the 8 ohm speakers that way you’d be safe with either set up.
If the amp says to use 8 ohms then you NEED to use at least an 8 ohm speaker. If you try and hook up a 4 ohm speaker you’ll be drawing twice as much current from the amp which might cause it to overheat or simply stop working.
The other thing to consider when buying a speaker is the power it is rated for. If you’re amp puts out 5 watts, then you’ll want to make sure the speaker you hook up to it is rated at least 5 watts.
Finally, you should also look at the frequency response of the speaker. You want a lower Hz number and a higher kHz number in the rating to put it simply. That way you make sure your speaker is able to put out any frequency your amp might throw at it.
Wouldn’t you want to put the 2 - 4ohm speakers in series? In series the circuit would total 8ohms, where as if you put them in parallel that would make the circuit 2ohms.
