I presume Bill was poking fun at himself in Zombieland and extending the gag in this venue.
The producers of that film probably chose to play up Ghostbusters so the prized teenager/college demographic would instantly recognize who he was… it’s his most famous role, I suspect more often than not to his chagrin. Coming out wearing the gear seems like a riff on that marketing decision more than confirmation of a third movie.
But hey. He must also enjoy the audience response – to say nothing of Sarah Silverman’s expression after he thanked her. And hell if it wasn’t great to see him in uniform again.

Maybe as he’s getting older, he’s realizing that Peter Venkman is going to be the one big role that people remember him for. Well, that and Phil Connors from Groundhog Day. And he doesn’t have a cool costume.
I mean people who are the age I was when Ghostbusters and GBII came out don’t know him from anything else. High schoolers and young 20somethings may know him from other stuff but I think Peter Venkman is gonna go down as his signature role. All things considered, it’s a fantastic thing to be remembered for.
Daaaaamn that was pretty EPIC! Not epic as in “oh look it’s Bill Murray accepting an award!” No as in “Shiiit it’s Bill F*cking Murray! And what’s this? No! No Way! Wearing his flight suit!? Get out of here you crazy kids!” . Also I got to admit that he’s in pretty good shape, the way he threw that proton pack on reminded me of the old days. Great to see him back in the saddle again, even if it’s for only a few minutes

Wow, watching this gave me chills. Best thing to be on tv for a long time. Having this and a back to the future tribute in the same show is more than one could ask for.

And worn by Bill F’ing Murray. Man I wouldn’t take it off if it was mine, I’d sleep on my stomach with it.
Twilight didn’t deserve any either but oh well… At least I got to hear James Cameron say “Tobin’s Spirit Guide.” That was cool!
It was right before the commercial break they had a very quick image of Bill and Weaver standing side by side of one another… Bill had a smile on him that went from ear to ear and it wasnt fake smile either.
