bought the Matty wand, but pack uses dixie bracket - fix?

Hi guys,

Like i said in the topic - I built my pack using the dixie cup bracket method. Its a foam and wood pack, so I am not sure how easy swapping it out would be..doable im sure, but maybe messy? I bought the Matty wand and I would like the two to work well together. Has anyone thought about how to attach a hose, and or get these two different mounting systems to work together?

The only way you will get this to work will to be to order a matching V hook set and swap out the Matty one or get the other side of the dixie and attach it to the Matty thrower. Either way you are modifying a $130+ toy to use as a prop. You will also have to pry open the end and remove the aux jack in the handle if you want to shove split loom into it. Its your money, do with it as you will.

Hmm…perhaps there is a less permanent solution that doesn’t involve compromising the integrity of this Matty toy?

I for one will be keeping this put up as a collector piece.

Is there a way to attach the hose to the pack?

I’d imagine if you found a way to fix a 3/4" cork/plug into the hose, and attach a male audio jack to the cork/plug, connect it that way.

Pretty genius!

That’s a really good idea.

Yeah, until you put alittle stress on the quarter inch audio connector and it comes flying out of the thrower. Those plugs arent meant for stress, at all.

What if you had the jack centered inside of a slip joint? So that the jack slides into the port but a pipe slips over the end of the gun for primary support?

I definitely want to get this working with my pack since my home built proton gun is signed by Dan and I get nervous taking it out in public.

Wonder what the chances are the jack is an audio output? That would be epic if you could send the signal from the gun to a louder speaker setup inside the pack.

Sorry guess I missed that. Thanks for posting

They should be able to withstand some pressure or force, seeing as Mattel included them for a possible future proton pack release. I don’t think they’d spend the money for a live jack if it wouldn’t work at all.

Also, it would probably work better if you just used a split loom and not the thick rubber hose inside.

I am planning on using the jack/cork with a PVC slip for support. I’m going to rigg it up to look like a plug. As if you can hot swap out throwers between stick and gun (comic style). I might even cut up some Velcro command strips and put those in their for extra hold. But I’m not going to alter the gun itself in any way.

Is it possible to remove the vhook on the matty gun? I can cut a matching male set.

The screws that hold the V Hook to the bottom of the gun track are real and the V Hook is removable.

Well, there you go. I’m not getting the matty gun so if anyone wants a matching male, I would need the first hook for a template.

I would be happy to send you mine so that a template can be made.

oddly enough my Matty thrower fits on the hook I got from MMM, I swapped out the ■■■■ green rubber hose for the real thing. glued a nut into the hole left behind and was able to screw the clippard vavles in no problem. Improves the thrower quite a bit. Still thinking about how to attack the hose.

Upon reading on a different thread around here of the readily available fitting by which one could attach the loom hose to the Matty wand, I set off for the nearby Home Depot, wand in hand, and decided to grab myself one or two. I got plenty of looks from staff and shoppers alike, who wondered what the hell I had in my hands… but anyway… I came home with 3 different fittings.

All of them work, but with varied results. You can choose the one that you prefer, but I feel there’s definitely one that works best; the one I’ve got the hose attached to in these pix. Reason being, you can put something around the end of the hose itself to keep it from slipping out of the fitting. Tape wound around the end, a cable tie… whatever. The smallest will allow you to attach the hose to the outside surface of the fitting… but will (I think) leave it looking somewhat sloppy. The other, wider threaded post will allow you to slip the hose into it, but it’s actually too small, and compresses the loom hose. Whatever.

Anyway… a little bit of paint, and it’ll be all good.
