Because the pressure or weight of something non-supernatural could easily cause the glass to crack.

Well, not being an expert on ghosts, I can’t give any insight I’m afraid.
Slimer managed to break the window of its ECU in the videogame.
After it was cracked by a paranormal shockwave.
And that was a videogame.
Of course and the only other sources we have are movies!
There’s no real Ectoplasm in this world, so what would you use as reference?
I would think that the ECU tank that Slimer was in would also have some sort of ectocontainment field. Otherwise a simple laminated glass holding tank would be no obstacle to a ghost. Slimer would simply pass right through it like any other matter. The shockwave probably took out the ECU’s containment field and also weakened the physical glass case.
