Clay for welds?

I was thinking about maybe using clay to make some of the welds and blends on the pack/gun.

Has anyone done this, and what sort of clay would I use which would dry in air? I know sculpey won’t dry out, I have some and it’s still soft after months of being left out.

Also does anyone have any pics of the sort of result I could get from a glue gun? I’ve used a glue gun in the past, but if I remember correctly the way the stuff comes out it would be more lumpy than weld-like.

Seems like most people use JB Stick Weld or a Moldable Epoxy.

Epoxy putty is my personal choice. It comes in a tube, you break off what you need, smoosh it together for a few minutes to mix it up, and then roll a thin “snake” in your hands. Once you have your “snake” of putty, just apply it where you want the welds and use the round end of pen or drill bit to make the weld lines. Cures pretty quick.

Agreed…

It’s available at Home Depot.

Thanks guys.

Robotprop, I saw in that old thread you had some great looking welds. How did you do the weathering on those? Paint it black then dab on aluminum? Or paint it aluminum then black and remove some of the black somehow?

Oh and where exactly in Home Depot is that epoxy putty? With the glues? Cause the people there never seem to know where anything is.

Epoxy putty is generally with the adhesives but not all stores have the same layout.

After you apply the putty to the part (following ■■■■■■’s method) primer the part real good with gray primer then paint it black. Once the black is dry you can lightly dab some silver highlights on the edges of the weld marks. If not, just scuff the edges lightly to reveal the gray primer underneath. The GB2 packs are fiberglass and all scratches reveal the gray primer, even on the weld lines. It depends on what look you’re going for.
