Columbia Prop Dept

Just to let all you GB fans know out there, especially the ones that were thinking I wasn’t for real with my short film, I have contacted Sony (who owns Columbia) about proton packs, and they don’t lend or rent, and the rental prop dept doesn’t have any.

We’ve known that for years.

And how does stating the blindingly obvious that any of us could have told you make you any more believable? :stuck_out_tongue:

Incidentally, here is his Myspace for any of you who are interested:

i love your …um logo… what did you use? windows 95 paint?

I know plenty of people who have rented the packs before.

Dude.. you are attempting to be proffesional.. ok cool..

This is your info from your own my space..

About me:

BMC Films has numerous projects in the work, the latest being Lake Chippewa. Keep an eye out for our website, coming soon!

Uh.. unless I am mistaken.. the term is “projects in the works”

If I am in error.. well so be it.. someone will indeed inform me of it…

I’m going to throw this out as I’ve wanted to address this on the forum but each time I try, the thread gets locked!

Given the cost of doing this film with Panavision cameras, with professional sound, etc I really doubt it will happen. He told me his budget is somewhere around $5000, or more specifically, that $5000 could be raised in a month. That’s barely enough to rent a panavision(last I checked you could rent one for $2500 a week), pay for the cost of film, pay for the processing of the film, and pay for a proper telecine scan of the film for editing.

Which leads me to think that, since he mentioned NYFA’s Universal Studios campus, he’ll be using their equipement since, for their more advanced students in their one year programs, they provide Panavision cameras as well as all the other equipment(booms, shotgun mics, light kits, tripods, dolleys, etc). However, judging from his tone(or rather, the way I took it), he either went and didn’t like NYFA or he is currently going and trying to sound like he isn’t.

Now, removing the cost of renting the camera and the equipment, more than half of the budget will still go solely to film related costs(film stock, processing, telecine). Add to that the need for padding the budget in case someone screws up with a light meter or focus setting or a focus rack, and a scene, possibly a roll of film, that is lost which must be done again, then add to that the cost of renting the props he wants and it’s past $5000.

Unrelated to cost, inviting people to a screening does not mean they will go to it(specifically, I don’t see why Dan would trek from his home in Canada to see a GB short made by either a film student or a small time director).

Now, this isn’t to say that the film won’t be made or anything, it just seems very unlikely to be done the way it’s being touted without at least double the budget. It also lends itself to the fact that this isn’t GB3, isn’t related at all and will not be related at all to the people involved with the original two films.

Add to that AJ’s mentioning that he knows people who have rented the proton packs from the studio while BMCFilms says the studio does not rent them and does not have them, well, suddenly you notice the bad smell in the air…

Alright, I’m done. Best of luck with your project, but you might want to ditch film and rent a HVX-200 or a XL-H1 and, if you can swing it, a Mini35 and some nice 35mm primes.

Wow, gettin harsh o.O

Thats not harsh , its telling it like it is

Thats what I like to hear.

We’re working with Panavision to use their digital camera on our feature, and are probably getting a deal on one of their film cameras for the GB short. That’s not my area, that’s the director. He’s the one with all the contacts at Panavision.

We could use NYFA equipment of we needed to and they’re currently working on getting us onto the backlot.

Thanks!

Dude get off this! No one wants to lone you a proton pack. You have NO real credit in film! Also according to your Myspace you have no real collage expertise in film making! And if you did where is you demo reel on either of your myspaces! You claim to love Ghostbusters so much then how come you dont even have that movie as one of your favorite movies on you myspace! You said you had a room mate at NYFA, So what! Did you drop out?! Your annoying me and every right minded individual on GBprops. So two words for ya! GET LOST!

TO AJQuick,

Please ban this member from this site! Thanks!

Hey dude.. I was trying to give you a chance.. but if you want some packs.. buy them off ebay..its easy.. and after your done with them.. resell them on ebay.. its really that simple..then you do with them what you want.. good luck..

You keep trying to pass yourself off as a film maker, director, writer, just a couple of problems, one being you are an idiot, of first off if you are a first year student at NYFA there is no way you will get your hands on the advanced film equipment, especially if they are panasonic film camera’s which are proberly 35mm, and this is not only coming from a ghostbuster fan, but a person who is a alumni of the Hofstra University film school, which if you know anything about film is very crediable, also as a form employee of the equipment room, I know how schools work there equipment rental, there is know way NYFA could possibly teach you what is needed in a year, let alone use the advanced equipment, the other is five grand is proberly on 35mm going to get you about six min of film, proberly less cause you have to pay for devlopment and transfer and all that other fun things which you should know about, now there is nothing wrong with trying to become a film maker, but stop trying to pass yourself off as one, its kind of insulting to those of us who have spent years learning the skills invloved with the art. So again please stop insulting the hard work that myself and other film makers have spent years on. Now here is some advice, learn form those who know and before you run your mouth do your research.

It was a one year program and I’m not the one taking out the equipment. The director, also a graduate of NYFA, is the one that would do that. But we probably won’t go through NYFA. We have two other sources of equipment, plus panavision.

This is comical! Why are you guys even replying to this guys posts? Perhaps if you ignore him he will go away (although doubtful), I’m already sick of seeing all the threads he’s creating every time I sign in :x He doesn’t even take a hint when you insult him, just toots his own horn some more, if he were anyone with any credibility he certainly wouldn’t be on here trying to “borrow” some props.

I’ll second Real LI Ghostbusters request…ban this guy, he’s taking up valuable space.
