This is an important question IMO. If they redesign the Proton Pack or the PKE Meter I am going to be super disappointed. I think the original designs are great! And they’re very iconic.
If they do redesign everything… Oh well, I’m not going to change my mind about building a GB1 Proton Pack either way. I don’t think they could design anything to top the original.
At this point I really don’t care about the reboot. I love everything to do with the originals and that’s how it will stay for me.
I think they might be on a table as a failed prototype or in a concept sketch or something but I fully expect all new gear.
I am not sure what they may decide to do. I’m just hoping that one of the “Fun little Nods” isn’t them coming up with a Prototype Proton Pack and it looks just like the original equipment. They then make some joke that the disign is too 80’s sci fi or clunky and then they come up with the bland desigin they pick for their movie further seperating and from the original. I hope that this movie at least feels like a Ghostbusters movie. I want them to hurry up and film and release this thing so it can flop and then Sony will have to regroup and figure out how to revive one of their biggest franchises. I am real anxious to see how receptive people will be to this movie and what outcome it will have on the future of Ghostbusters. I hope it can recover. 
I’m thinking yes. If this reboot isn’t in the same universe as 1&2 they’ll have nothing to base the “new” gear on.

Well, seeing as this will be Feig’s universe they probably will redesign everything.
My hope is that the new equipment looks like more up to date versions of everything. Maybe in the background there will be original versions of everything. It would be a cool nod to the original if they did.
Even in the remake of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy the original Marvin the paranoid android made an appearance in the film.

For sure things will be redesigned especially Ecto 1. It’ll probably be more futuristic looking with less devices on top. Certainly less than Ecto 1A. Me personally I wouldn’t mind if they used the darker uniforms from GB2. Make them look more Swat team like.
You bet your ass they’ll redesign everything. I don’t even expect to see The original Ecto-1. Though I can’t help but be wonder what they’ll come up with.
Proton Pack is up there with a lightsabre as iconic weapons of American cinema. Look what happened when the trailer for the new Star Wars came out. All anyone would talk about is the double hilted sabre. And that’s with the guarantee of the original sabre design appearing in the actual movie! If they are that stupid then this thing will be dead on arrival
I think they’ll stay true to the mitology in the Russo directed-Reitman guided one. In the leaked mails Feig reported to Pascal how he was annoiyed by Reitman’s insistence to keep some elements true to the Gb lore.
I’m betting that, at least in Feig’s version, nothing will be the same. Maybe the no-ghost symbol will stay intact to sell the movie to audiences, but other than that I expect it won’t be very recognizable as Ghostbusters at all.
It won’t be! After all I’ve read about Feig’s ideas it will be female MiB with ghosts and the only thing that remains from the franchise will be the logo! I don’t really care if it’s good or bad as long as it claims to be something that it really isn’t: Ghostbusters!
I hope it goes down with flying flags and they decide to settle the new expanded universe within the old movie universe instead of the new one. They could then start with a pilot called: The Return of the “Real” Ghostbusters!
They did that with the RoboCop remake and the result was a lot of ■■■■■■ off fans (the first suit he had looked like the original and the second was the bland black one). They later refilmed the entire ending so that he ends up back in the suit that looks like the orignal.

Right now if Both films are made, I was wondering if their tech will be different from the ladies or if they will have uniforms. Or will it be the same. Maybe one of the teams will accidentally design a piece of equipment that looks like the original stuff. Hey maybe if they keep pumping these movies out maybe one of them will hit the mark.
I’d put my money on a redesign, with, at best, a cameo of the original gear as a failed prototype.
