I’m Sure this has been covered already but while trying to dye my knee/elbow pads I could never get them any darker than a light grey. I found this spray on fabric dye called “simply spray” that stuff works great and it’s less of hassle than going through the dye process. I bought the stuff at Joann Fabrics.

Sounds good! I haven’t heard of this “simply spray” but I have used grey primer in the past, which has given the best result I could hope for.

as soon as I can figure out how to post pictures I’ll post some what I did was use the black spray dye let it dry then washed them.
If you guys can tell me how to post pictures I’ll be happy to! 
3 options:
1.host them on a site like photobucket, then copy the picture links and post them here using the [img] code.
upload pics of them to your profile here on gbfans (make sure to upload them under “uniform”) and once again use the [img] code to post them here in the forums
since you’re a supporting member, you can upload the pictures from your PC into an attachment in your post.

those look good. now cut the bands down and apply a fray check solution.
Looks good. Much better then when people just use RIT and leave the white bubble

Thanks for everyone’s feedback! How far should I cut the bands down?
I’d suggest putting on your suit and putting on those pads and having another person and take a wash-out marker and mark the places to remove. Seeing the basic idea before cutting (ESPECIALLY ELASTIC!) is really important.
See the caps attached for a basic idea, all from the first film. Also note in GB1 the black elastic strips on the arm band as well.
In GB2, in the scene where Louis is telling the gang where Dana has gone, Peter is putting his pads on, and they are different looking. It even appears there is a white interior; they look hastily spray painted and have no black band.

You must have a way to to stop the unraveling that will follow, some people use fray-check and other sewing products.
If you have a serger sewing machine (it specifically sews up edges) that helps.
Thanks! I think I’m going to print a picture and take my Pads (elbow pads that is! stop snickering!!) to the lady who sews all my patches and does my alterations and have her do it, I’d hate to screw it up.

Great! If you have anyone with sewing capabilities (especially professional), it’s really a huge bonus from having a half-decent looking prop (that may be fraying or falling apart) to a clean and neat one.
the pads in the movie were cut and had an anti-fray solution applied to the edges, hence the slightly darker outlining on the cut edge.
when it came time to sew one the black patch, i just cut up and old black tshirt and sewed a square on. very very easy to do by hand and is really the only sewing required on the elbow pads.
