By the way, I know that people take their Ectos very seriously and to most a bike dosent “constitute an Ectomobile.”
Im just tring to have fun and theme my bike in the way of something I love. No harm or insult meant to owners or builders of the real Ectomobiles out there.
Don’t misrepresent the other thread as any insinuation that you shouldn’t continue with your bike. Find DentArthurDent’s “Ecto-Ped” thread and see the responses there. They were mainly positive and many of us here will be very encouraging of your project. All we ask is that you keep perspective of your canvas and how you want to paint it…
Maybe paint it white… replace the seat with one that fits the style more (springs)… put a rack on the back with various doodads on it. Add one of those raised police lights on a pole. Maybe stick a couple rectangular containers on the sides of the back. (Dunno if that would make it hard to ride or not, I can’t seem to find many pics of bikes with such containers.) The chain guard, once painted white might be a good place for a thin strip of reflective hazard tape.
Get one of those helmets, and add fins to it, like the ecto fins had. You might be able to cobble two of those red water pressure rocket tops into tail lights, even.
That’d be great to see in a parade along with real cars or gear.
Short and pointless story, but kinda related: I went to a car show in 2003 in Canberra, and there was a guy there peddling around on a bicycle “chopper” made from a '59 Cadillac fin. If you were gonna make an Ecto bike, that would be perfect in my opinion. I’ve been searching for a photo of this bike, but 2003 was in the era of god-damn print photos and I’ve got too many boxes of photos to look through to find it, lol.
