Ectomobile Crashes

I don?t have an Ectomobile but I do have an ECTO-1 Bicycle and yesterday I was speeding down a hill with it when a turn came up and I almost slid off an embankment and into a steel fence, Probably one of the most terrifying moments in my ghost busting experiences.

I was wondering if any of you out there that own an Ectomobile ever had a close call or worse an actual crash when driving around, it?s a scary thought. I?m still nervous about what almost happened to me and my ECTO-1 Bicycle yesterday

Hey.. I’ve got a '65 ambulance we’ve made into an ectomobile and we drive around my college campus with 3 PA speakers hidden in the rack that play the theme and we’ve had a few incidents..

Like one time we were driving through downtown Athens, Ga and this big fat woman had actually gotten out of her car and was dancing in the street. We were kind of awe-struck by this and I nearly ran over a big group of people crossing the street in front of us.

Once there was a girl that was coming out from behind a bus at a bus stop and I guess she didn’t look before she tried to cross because we had to slam on the brakes and she came within three or four feet of being the new hood ornament of a '65 Cadillac.

Umm.. what else.. I guess the only other significant almost-accidents we’ve had have been redlights. The car’s so heavy and it takes so long to make a complete stop sometimes that a lot of the times we kind of just floor it through redlights that sneak up on us.

That’s about it. The weird stories are more frequent than the accident stories.

Yeah weird stuff does seem to happen when driving an Ectomobile or in my case an Ectobicycle. People are always looking in surprise.

My ectostang isn’t even fully converted yet, but I’ve had a few close calls. The trouble with mustangs is most of them (if not all of them) Have no anti-lock brakes, so if you’re in wet or icy weather, you’ve got to be DAMN CAREFUL and know how to keep the brakes from locking up without panicking.

One time I almost had a new honda for a hood ornament, another time the car’s tires spun on take off and slide over into the other lane and almost got cornholed by an suv, let me tell you, a large suv might as well be a semi when in a small car like a mustang! D: You know those incidents where you gotta pull over and sit there breathing really hard cuz your heart’s going a mile a second, onna those.

I’ve had lots of close calls, front clip nearly taken off, sidebashed, rear ends, and head ons. I guess it comes with the territory. I use my ecto as a daily driver, and right now it commands alot of attention just with 2 amber lights on top and the stuff in the back window, the more I put on it, the worse it will be I’m sure. I think I need a secondary car to safely drive and just drive the ol ecto 96 once in a while and for busts..

I have the same problem with the brakes on my Ecto bike they lock up easily. One time I was rolling down a boat ramp it did not seem very steep but when I put the breaks on the wheel locked up and the pavement of the ramp was covered with sand so I kept sliding luckily the bike stopped in time before rolling into the pond

I also use my Ecto for daily transportation people tell me I should get a regular bike and use the Ecto bike only once in a while to avoid getting it damaged and worn out

Ok yeah I can see the point in not wanting to wear out your ecto. My Ectostang’s already 10 years old and just rolled over 160 thousand a couple weeks ago. I definately get around cuz when I got it last year in march, it only had 143 thousand lol, and I’ve had to put a transmission in it… ow.. my wallet.

Oh, one more thing, WTF were you doing driving down a BOAT ramp? It’s not for bicycles it’s for boats, hence the name!

There were trees and bushes blocking my view of the pond so I drove down a boat ramp to see the pond. Of course I could of parked the bike and walked down the ramp to the pond but at the same time I felt like listening to the Ghostbusters theme song so I drove the bike instead

Oh so you would’ve washed your bike and the electronics on it, awesome

No, probably of just got the front tire wet

But the electronics are fairly well sealed from water

I was thinking if an Ectomobile did crash and parts of the roof rack flow off and did damage would the driver get in trouble for having an unsafe vehicle :?:

Probably get in trouble for having unsecured items on the car. It’s leagal to have that stuff on your car, but it’s supposed to be held securely.

I don?t believe this :x ! I go to ride my bike and find that one of the tanks were chewed up by some dame mice. I?m going to K-mart this week to stock up on rat poison and mouse traps.

It makes me mad to see my ECTO damaged by mice. Bad enough the bike is at risk of being damaged in a crash now I need to worry about mice too!

I hate how mice get into just about anything then chew it up and crap all over it

We were filming for our fan film (its the last line at my siggy) and our group has a Ford Explorer labeled ECTO-7A. Well we do keep our gear secured in the back to a rack and a prop pc is tied down. I’m the only one who has ever handled SUVs. Let alone the street racing i do wtih my eclipse I can pull some major ■■■■.

Well As we went to speed around a turn, we figured we had it ready to go and I was so sure I could drift my way around. I forgot the weight diffrence. I’m used to a compact car not an SU fuggin V. Hit the turn BAM!

slimers spinning around my head we hit a tree head first. totaled the engine. Pooor ECTO-7A. She’s currently being repaired and I’ve been humbled as the “master” driver. Luckily our gear wasnt hurt. No One was severly hurt at all just shaken.

Moral of the story… Dont get cocky durning a chase scene.

Yeah, when I get the roof rack on the Ectostang I’m going to have to account for the change in center of gravity. I can take corners at about 30-35 and I’m sure that’ll be reduced once I get a full roof rack on her top.

Speakin’ of taking corners too fast and the center of gravity… Watch the musical montage in Ghostbusters 2. At one point, when they take a corner in ECTO-1A, it lifts one of the front tires off the ground. Slow-motion it, you’ll be able to see it better.

Yeah I saw that too and was like 0.0 that poor actor who jumps out of the way.. I can’t help but wonder if it wasn’t planned

:o I wonder if a fully equipped ectomobile would fit into one of those fully automatic car washes, i think the roof rack would be crushed and the ladder would get jammed in between the car and the washing device!!! :!:

I know my uncle has a regular old hearse, an 80 caddi, they call it Lily just like Lily Munster, she fit through the car wash with no problem, but she’s probably 4 feet shorter than the original w/roof rack lol

Where in Mchenry County are you located?

No.. doesn’t fit. My clearance is like.. 10’2", so anything taller than thats taller than that works. We usually take it to one of those pay-and-do-it-yourself car washes, but the antennae on top of the white beacon with the red stripes still scrub the ceiling. It’s pretty funny.
