ok so i thought i would post this in a new topic to get more thoughts on it, rather than bury it in the bottom of my pack build thread. anywho, here is a fake clippard i made this week. i think i spent about 2hrs on it. it is a cut off energy drink bottle w/ the label glued on. the base is two pieces of 1/4" mdf glue together. i drew the base out free hand. i am frighteningly unsatisfied with it, given the quality of the rest of my pack. i feel like if i spent more time on it i could do better. but i dunno if its really that important, considering i need to get the thrower built by haloween. sssooo, what do you guys think? good or rebuild?
I would rebuild. just personally I am a stickler for detail. I wold keep the base though a layer of bondo and some sanding and that would work out just fine. You should look into bottle of white out I have seen some fake clippards done with those that look spectacular.
That and ditch the wood screws go with a bolt or a socket head screw and bolt. It makes it look more like an unlicensed nuclear accelerator and less like something you made out of stuff from the home depot.
word guys. the dome-ness is one issue, but i’m really not cool with the base at all. it just looks too tall. i did find a place 5 minutes from my office that sells clippards, but i doubt they have what i’d need in stock.
I don’t think anyone in the “real world” would give it a second thought  I have heard of the white out bottles as well as some people talking about those little film cannisters. I have some pill bottles(No I’m not crazy  ) I think that might work nicely. I kinda painted one black and silver really quick just to see how it could look and it was pretty cool, I think!
I found the older style round white out bottle was tough to track down. As far as I had seen anyway lookin around. I did use the cap of a whiteout bottle for the top. It had that nice ridged look. I think someone said they sanded the little Bic guy off the cap.
I am a believer in “as long as your happy, its the right way to go.”
So if you are happy with the way it looks then so be it and use it. I know its a frustrating feeling to work so hard on something just to have to change it. (trust me been there done that)
I do however think if accuracy is your goal there are better ways to make it and even easier than a two hour work load! I have to reprint the sticker on my thrower’s clippard because it looks too grey and I don’t know what I was thinking, but take a look at the photo of the clippard here.
i agree, the white out looks really swell on pvj’s gun, but then again, all his stuff looks great! really though i have seen them used several times and they do look well. either gettng a real r701 for the gun or using the white out. turns out my little turdlings are too big anyhow. go figure
