could it be possible, as a substitute for the clippard on the proton gun, to take one of the little neon lights, break off the glass, and use the part that screws in as a clippard? im referring to the little neon ones that come in shapes as guitar, palm tree, and i think a star. i got mine for christmas, saw them at wal mart. and they screw into a little black base that’s in the shape of a star. u know what I’m talking about?
You’re better off using a little round bottle of White Out. It’ll be cheaper, look better and safer than breaking glass. I know someone here used it and it looked cool.
I’ve found that old pinball machine solenoids look a lot like the Clippard valves. You can just print out a label, slap it on, and it looks pretty cool. Wish I could get you a picture of the exact one I’m talking about, but google can’t find anything and I don’t have the solenoids with me ATM.
A White-Out bottle works great as you can see here. When I started making my pack I had this as a temp peice until I aquired a real one. It’s the perfect shape and size for a quick and easy alturnative. I made the base part out of cardboard and printed off a lable.

I did a search on ebay to see if there were any pinball selenoids listed. Lotsa selenoid drivers, but no selenoids.
That white-out bottle doesn’t look half-bad for a cheap replacement alternative. Sounds like it would be a good suggestion for all the junk-packs out there.
thank u all so much for replying…but…i went to wal-mart to get the bottle of white-out…and they dont make them in that shape anymore! it’s in some weird rectangle shape! wtf?! what else could I use that looks like a good clippard look-a-like, b/c i dont know anyone that has one of the old bottles.
Staples has the bottle. 99cents and it’s made by BIC.
yea real White Out is still in the bottle with the brush.. you were looking at the other brand that became more pratical cuz its a pen.. and goes on smooth.. but the bottle is still being made..
okay Juan, I’ll check out Staples later today. the ones at wal-mart had the brush, but the bottle was a weird shape, not cylinder like i need. but I’ll look at staples.
I’ve seen those around the stores, they’re not a cylindrical shape but more of an oval shape, anyway, I need to throw a junk gun together in a week, so this is really helpful. Awesome idea! 8) Just a few questions: what did you use for the base, where did you find the label and did you drain the bottle or glue the top shut before you connected it to the gun?
Thanks!
I’m not sure where he got his label, but it very well could have been here: http://www.hprops.com/labels/KJHPack03.pdf (he did say he printed off his own label). As for the base, he mentioned in his post that he used cardboard.
LOL sorry guys, I read good
thanks for pointing that out Taran
My easy solution… travel-sized shampoo bottles:

This is actually a Pertplus bottle, though I don’t think they make them like this anymore (I’ve been holding on to this for a few years). Who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and find one or a bottle like it. Try dollar stores; they get lots of old stock on items (our local one is selling old items from the 80s, I kid you not).
Wow. I like that one even better than the white-out version. What did you use for the base?
I did a combination of what chesne did. I got some Clippard R401’s off of eBay for about $1 each. The Clippard 401 has a little clear bulb on the end. I unscrewed the top of the Clippard, removed the clear bulb, put a T-Nut (shortened with a Dremel) in its place, and used a travel size shampoo bottle cap on the end of a bolt (affixed with JB weld). Looks just like the real thing, and turns open/close. ![]()
no joke! That travel shampoo bottle is INCREDIBLY awesome as an alternative. I LOVE looking for alternatives and that is just rocked out! What did you use for the base Chesne?
It’s “Chesme,” guys, but that’s okay… I’ll let it slip this time.
The bottom half is just foamboard (like practically everything on my pack) with woodfiller to cover the exposed foam. I used Stefan’s plans to print out a template, which I then used to cut out two pieces of out of foamboard. Glue those two bits together with woodglue, drill holes for the screws and detail with woodfiller. Tada! Very simple solution. I’m glad everyone likes it, thanks!
Edit: I just happen to have a shot of the one for the pack getting ready for finishing:

i can’t believe that I didnt think of that! with the shampoo bottle. i think my mom has some of the little shampoo bottles that she ‘borrowed’ form the various hotels we’ve stayed at. or, if not, I’ll try that dollar store idea.
oh, and, is it just me, or does that bottlie kinda look like a little bottle of blowing bubbles or something? maybe thats also an alternative, if such a size exisits
Unfortunely, they stop using those bottles.
I have saw them again being used again (from different manufacture) in a business setting. My guess is, it’s being sold in a box with several of them inside to commercial use only.
