The “filler plugs” aka “beam lines” should be cut to the same length regardless of what Stefans plans say. Once installed they will sit at different heights. A good rule of thumb for me is to have the left one equal the height of the cylco (or just below). The second plug of the same length should come up to about the mid level (or just below) of the PPD depending on how big of a step you have on your plating. I will try and snap a pic or two if that doesn’t make sense.
Stefan’s plans are drawn showing the two filler tubes at the same height (which is only a drawing and was probably done in error), but he only lists one measurement which you have to subtract from the thickness he gives you on the cosmetic plating in that area (simple math). On my V71 Mark X shell I plan to make the tubes 4.5" tall. I was just curious where these “multiple measurements” are on the plans because I see only one measurement given for each dimension. One height, one diameter. It doesn’t get more straight forward than that for these parts on his plans.
Even though a shell may be built to a specific set of plans, always double check measurements. I use the measurements as a baseline but I always double check in reference to the photos of the actual pack. I know that the filler tube towards the center of the pack sits about level with the Clippard (slightly below). I altered my dimensions from Stefan’s plans to give my pack that same proportionate look.
the confusion and multiple measurments come from the fact that on stefans plans there are three measurments per filler tuber only two measurments are the same which i guess is the diameter
the other four measurments are different from each other hence the confusion on which ones are for height and diameter
also thanks for the pictures ■■■■■■
and thanks in general for the help that has been given
Only three height measurements here total, and only one given for the filler tube. The filler tube measurement is given in relation to the bottom of the cosmetic plating. Subtract the 5.375 from the .500 to make up for the thickness of the plating in that area and there you go. Nothing in the rest of the drawing has anything to do with height.
No worries. I’ll admit that Stefan’s plans are a little tricky at first but once you get used to them they are a great resource.
Also, sorry for coming down a bit harshly with the questions, etc. I wanted to try and help you decipher the plans instead of just giving out a measurement. There are tons of measurements in those plans and it’s better to help someone read them rather than simply posting each measurement individually over several different topics. Also, as I said in an earlier post, Stefan’s plans are the best and most detailed plans we have but some areas are inaccurate and I urge you to compare the measurements to screen shots to determine what works best for you and then tailor the measurements accordingly to suit your pack.
If you have any other questions though feel free to ask. That’s what this board is here for.
