First time build, looking for opinions/pointers

Here are a couple pics of the not so great eBay thrower. Still needs some labels but it was at least a good practice peice to learn to work with resin.

It’s not the greatest but it will work as a hand me down for my better half.

This showed up today.

Some progress pics today.

Started out with a couple of bolts.

Went in the seam with some JB weld epoxy putty.

Filled it out some more, left enough space for the top left cosmetic plate to slide in.

Final step of the night, traced out a power cell window.

Tomorrow I will trim away some extra plastic from the shell and maybe get the fiberglassing going.

And here is the fiberglassing.

Some new parts came in as well, from noslliT, Kcghostbuster and the gbfans store.

Resin ion arm and resistors from kcghostbuster, ion arm cap from noslliT, ribbon cable clamp and legris banjos from the store and the elbows were an auction site find.

Another great start on an SC build. Nice job on the glassing. Looking forward to more

Thanks, I’m hoping to get some more work in tonight. I’m doing my first con with the SC ghostbusters and its been a lot of fun. Next time I’ll have a pack.

AS echoed before, great start to an SC build. You are going to have so much fun with this!

Thanks man, I’m probably gonna start prepping those resin parts tonight, it’s already a blast and seeing the other guys in my franchise with their packs is great motivation.

Did a mount of the ion arm tonight, drilled and tapped three holes in the bottom of the ion arm. I traced it’s outline on paper and made a drill template. Used the template to put my holes in the shell and bolted it in.

I also attached the end cap. Just used the cap taped in place as a guide and drilled from there. Then drilled the screws in there. Next up is resistors and painting the arm.

I also noticed the side wall of the shell above the power cell is very weak feeling even after fiberglassing. I’ve got some sheet pvc on the way for the cyclotron plates that I’ll use to reinforce the area.

Nice mount job mate

That will definitely work , I did a vaccuform shell build for a buddy and I just cut appropriate sized styrene plates and epoxied them in the corners, strengthened it right up!

I’ve been pondering how I’d best attach my resin parts once I’d fiberglassed my shell, and now I know [emoji4]

Great start on your pack!

Thanks, my biggest hurdles will be cutting the motherboard as I am not all that great with a jigsaw and mounting the shell to the motherboard because it seems like the hardest part. After that it should be all down hill.

Cutting the motherboard (out of 1/8" aluminum) is actually pretty simple if done properly. Just use a metal cutting blade on your jigsaw and spray WD-40 on the blade periodically. The last batch of motherboards that I made only took about twenty minutes each to cut.

It also helps if you make a master tracing of the shape of your shell (with the appropriate excess, lines, and curves that extend past the shell) on a sheet of poster board.

I’m using mdf for mine. Just going to keep to the traced outline and go wider outside and sand down from there if I have to.

Here is where I reinforced the shell with the pvc sheeting.

This is the template for my cyclotron plating. I used Stefan’s plans for these. I need to find an efficient way to cut them because the dremel takes away too much. I did the xacto knife scoring and breaking along the cut method for the plates in the first pic but that was a lot of work.

I used this bad boy for the beam line, filler tube, injectors from the power cell and vac line tube. I used sink tail pipes as seen in Riggs45’s build and cut them according to stefans plans again. The other tubes are cut from 1" ID pvc pipe. The pvc cutters are pretty rough on the tali pipe because it is thin, but made nice cuts on the pvc (duh). I will sand the ends flush and put wooden dowels inside and mount them with probably hangar bolts, washers and nuts.

Here is a dry fit. Just because.

And ending the post with some sexy metal parts I got from Ejgunth87. Spengler v-hook, mounting brackets and injector bracket. I placed an order with crix for a sound and light kit and have speakers ordered as well.

Coming along very nicely.

Looking mighty fine indeed

So progress has been slow lately, I’ve been working insane hours which has turned build time into sleep time. Also in awaiting a nick a tron order, an electronics kit from crix and a thrower from throwing chicken.

However some stuff has been done. Just a few little things.

Some of the cyclotron plates in place. Epoxied on and clamped.

Here is how in doing the beam line/filler tube. 1" ID pvc pipe cut to size, a 1" wooden dowel epoxied inside. Bondo up the top of it and attach it to the shell with a hangar bolt. Sand that bondo smooth, prime, paint, done.

I also got an aluminum trigger tip and acrylic tube from Ejgunth87. More beautiful work from this guy.

Soon I’ll be back to just one job and hopefully I’ll get this build back on track.

Cool to see some updates. Looks like your moving along nicely even though you’ve been short for time
