Flight Suit Hose Connector?

Hello!

Just wondering what types of connector & methods you guys are using out there to connector your hose to the front of the flight suits?

It seems that maybe the ones used on screen were just built into the flight suits. But what about buying a flight suit that doesn’t come with the connector built in?

Does anyone know where you can buy a screen accurate connector?

Thanks

The connectors were a rubber piece they made for the film. It’s sewn onto the suit.

I used a garden hose type connector for mine. I got it from Home Depot where they sell all sorts of brass fittings for gas lines and stuff. I heated it on the stove to make it a nice oxidized brown color. I purchased a plastic male hose repair kit and sawed off the nozzle that you plug the hose onto just leaving the bit you screw onto the hose, and then screwed that into the brass fitting from inside the suit to hold it in place.

There are also other types of garden hose repair kits which are plastic where you insert the hose and then screw down this piece to make a tight connection. You’d need to paint those, since they’re usually green or blue.

I don’t know who might sell the movie accurate rubber hose connectors.

GBFans member Thiago (GBFreak83) produced a custom-made, highly accurate rubber hose connector last year. I don’t know if he has made any fresh production runs, but he’s the go-to guy for the most accurate one made so far.

IMO he makes the best ones. I got one and sewed it to my suit. When I get my GB1 suit going, I will get another from him too,

Are there any topics or tutorials on how to install/sew a connector into a flight suit. Or where to purchase one?

I’ll be honest, I’m new to this and want to try and get one on my suit. It doesn’t have to be 100% screen accurate. Just look similar and look good.

He has a good one too !!!

that’s what I did too. edit: here’s the old tutorial thread, the pics are gone, but the instructions are still there. good luck!

So I have one of the awesome repro hose connectors for the front of the suit. But how are people connecting the back of the hose? It looks like it just clips to the belt somehow, but I can’t figure out how.

It’s However you want to do it. In the movies they were just tucked in behind the belt. I’m betting that they had a piece of duct tape or gaffer tape holding it in place on the under side of the belt, otherwise it would have fallen out of place a lot more than it did. I use a law enforcement key holder for mine.

It’s a 20 dollar purchase, but imo, it looks better than just sticking it on a hook and having it hang there.

I got a little creative with mine.

My belt gizmo’s cord also plugs into this via the phone jack

It is normally just cliped to my belt and is kinda hidden away by my pack.

Zander,

That circuit board almost looks like a mini proton pack

Never noticed that before.

XD

It came from my old Alltel LG F3000 carphone

I like the MMM,that’s the one I would go with!

You don’t have to wait a year to get it!

That’s where I got mine,love it!

Yeah MMM makes great quality stuff, im going to be ordering my hose & connector from him over the next few weeks

In the past i have bought a circuit board pouch & trap holster from him & ive been very pleased with the speedy delivery service, very recommended

Couldnt agree more. GBFreek’s stuff is good but its a matter of actually getting it. It takes forever and a day to get it unless you live close by like zander or myself.

So what kind of thread are you all using to sew the connector on? I have a rubber one and want to sew it on right the first time. I assume I’ll need to use very strong and thick thread, but wanted to hear what others did. Thanks.

Hey Butcha,

I sewed mine on with regular old thread. It’s nothing that I would consider “very strong and thick,” but I sewed it on sort of like how you’d sew on a button to your shirt, just tightly wrapping the thread around several times. I also had the thread doubled over, so that each pass would put two wraps around it, if that makes sense. Here are some pictures of the finished product.

Also, for the open end of the hose, I have a third keyring going through a hole I put in the hose, and it just hangs off the belt. You can kind of see it in the third picture.

Also, in this last picture, the connector wasn’t completely sewn on yet. Only maybe 2 holes were sewn on, so you can see that it really holds onto the suit. I think if you make it nice and tight you shouldn’t have to worry about it breaking off.
