For those looking forward to the film

Could this work? I’m so onboard with this new movie. I know many are not, that’s fine and you’ve been heard… How about a thread where we can stick to the true topic at hand. The upcoming movie…?

What do you folks think… Human or Spiritual evils afoot?

I’m not sure if there’s much purpose served in creating a specific good vibes topic, when it’ll sooner or later end up duplicating other topics that’ll pop up eventually.

But I’ll bite, for the moment (though I felt an obligation to retitle it).

As for the question

It’s the villain’s device, no doubt about it.

Yeah, your right… Go ahead and remove it.

I’ll hang out with you. My wife got a taste for the boards after watching the trailer. She’s pumped for the movie now. Then she overheard me watching trailer reactions and started getting mad at the comments made. I told her, “Welcome to my world!” Are there valid criticisms? Yes! But they’re being drowned out by the irrational stuff.

I like what I’ve seen and want it to do well. Just don’t want the initial hate to hurt the film if it actually turns out good.

Also, never noticed the device Hemsworth was walking to in the trailer. Awesome!

So the GB find the device and store it and Kevin gets possessed to steal it?

Or he’s possessed and builds it under the power of the ghost possessing him.

Well, we see him kick open a door which makes it feel like it’s been locked away or something. Becomes a good reason to possess him so that he can steal it back.

This part has me intrigued. The original GB never really had a villain pulling the strings throughout and actively combatting the GB. We knew of Gozer’s existence, but his/her arrival was set in motion long before the GB existed. Seeing an enemy have to possess people and infiltrate the HQ is really cool.

Not a dig at the film/(potential) plot device, but it again displays a heavy influence from the cartoons.

I feel a lot of connection with the comics, too. They dealt more with possession and different tech.

Seems like some of that is very reminiscent of GB2 ie Vigo acting as more of a villainous intelligence pulling strings from behind the scenes, manipulating Yanosh, possessing Ray etc vs. the first film’s Lovecraftian indifference/man vs the cosmos vibe. Wasn’t there originally supposed to be more of possessed Ray wreaking havoc in early drafts of the second film?

Yes. The scene when they’re driving in the Ecto and Venkman has a sort of, “What’s up with Stantz’s driving” look. It’s during the ghost catching montage. That was originally a longer scene where we see the effects of Ray’s possession taking affect from his visit to the museum.

I’m waaaay too excited about this film. One thing I’m really hoping for or even like to see is more of an open-ending. Like, after all this ghost chaos, it actually catches the attention of something much bigger from a different dimension.

I wonder if that machine is the ECU…

I gotta say I and most of my local GB friends are coming around a bit since the international trailer. I think the gear has a nice kitbash look to it, that might be fun to replicate (yeah, I’m a builder  ). I feel like it could work–it won’t replace the original by any means, but I reckon it’s got a pretty good shot at being better than GB2.

I think you’re on to something. Might be that Kevin gets possessed and releases all the ghosts in the ECU hence causing all the mayhem.
