GB Attraction Closed at Universal

I’m just reading about how the Ghostbusters attraction closed last year at Universal Studios in Florida. Most of you die-hard fans probably already knew this.

That really does make me sad. I always wondered about going back there to see it. Last time I was there was 1994-95 and I can barely remember anything.

Shame.

Eh, ‘The Great Frightway’ as it was called was a shadow of the better Ghostbusters event there, the Spooktacular.

In the early 90s, Universal Florida had a stage show based on the rooftop battle with Gozer… sadly it was closed down and replaced with Twister, and after that the GBs moved out into the street and three quarters of them replaced with no name busters in horribly coloured flightsuits.

The building they used as the Firehouse still stands, but these days it’s just a mock Firehouse.

good times… i used to love that stage show…

ok then were is all the props of spooktacular i like the show it was great the rooftop was in the same gb bulding it was cool

Well… if Chuck’s intel is right, most of the mobile stuff (excluding USF’s Ecto replica) has been shipped back to Sony.

The stage set itself was probably destroyed when the area was being converted into Twister.

Yeah, just like the set for Titanic was paved over for the James Bond flick

Well I thought USF’s Ecto was purchased and converted using money paid for BY THE PARK, so they wouldnt have to give it over to them. According to someone who works there told me that the car is still there.

DAMN the good things leave and the stupid things like twister take a hole new part … thats life < i hate that

The set was dismantled shortly after filming finished but I think it’s used for tours… or on show somewhere, there would only have been a warehouse exterior left and probably the dry dock/framework for the ship exterior.

At least, the interiors still existed in dismantled form a few years back.

What I cant understand is why not atleast just display the items instead of leaving them to rot in the backlots? I am sure sony wouldnt have a problem with signing a new contract to allow them to create a gallery. Then again, they did refuse to renew the licensing agreement, so who knows…

Hey, Ultimate Reality,

Better you than what happened to me. I went to visit USF in Jan., 99 and looked for this attraction and found nothing.

I even looked around to see the ECTO-1 that runs in park’s streets, but only found Blue Brother’s Police car…

I can’t believe they prefer the blue brothers (nothing against this movie), but instead of Ghostbusters???

See’ya ghostheads!

I’m sorry I never got to see this. I agree with the above. I have a lot of pics with me and the Bluesmobile and while it’s cool… It’s not the ECTO-1. Somehow I still can’t believe there are some working so hard to make this all forgotten and buried.

You didn’t have to be around in the 80s or even early 90s to go back and wathc these movies and appreciate what they were at the time.

I know it’s difficult to go back and watch movies for the first time that were made over 20 years ago.

But this wasn’t just any movie.

Hey!

Does anyone have this show recorded and digitalized that could send us a link to download or watch it?

I really would like to see this show. Anyone?

Let me know.

yes plz post it if someone has it Ray
