GB in Most Extreme Elimination Challenge!

Hey there,

So I’m a big fan of the old Spike T.V. series, “MXC”. I’ve been watching a few episodes here and there, and found something I never thought I’d see. Something I haven’t seen before.

It seems there was a monster-themed special episode (Season 2, Episode 12), in which Monsters battled mascots through various obstacle courses, per usual.

What’s odd about this is that among the mascots, was a man or woman dressed as our beloved Slimer!

What’s more odd, is it’s actually a pretty damn good looking costume! It rivals what us fans are producing 30 years later, in fact.

The original program, Takeshi’s Castle, was a Japanese game show which aired from 1986 to 1990. It makes sense that GB would be on the mind of anyone wanting to make a scary Halloween costume, but it got me wondering if this was some sort of promotional suit, or if it would just be a fan-made suit, built to be destroyed in the competition. If anyone has any more info on this, or other promo suits from the time period, your knowledge would be appreciated!

The full episode can be viewed below.

The spud’s run through “The Impassable Stones of Mount McKidney!” start at the 15min, 14 second mark.

I half thought I imagined this years ago. I’m stoked you found it and proved I wasn’t imagining it.

I did a search to see if there were other clips, and here’s the UK version, narrated by Craig Charles of Red Dwarf doing a sort-of Robin Leach impression.

In addition to Slimer’s run as “Hock, the Green Loogie” in the US version, the costume can be seen a few more times in the longer UK showing.

Slimer tries to go through the maze at 3:37 and fights in the sumo rings at 22:40, with a replay at 24:48. Craig Charles actually refers to him as Slimer in the recap.

The UK version calls the game at 26:06 “Boulder Dash” but it looks like basically the same footage as the American cutdown.

And after that, just some glimpses of Slimer in the final showdown, with all the costumes on the field of battle together. Starts about 42:35.

There’s also a Statue of Liberty costume, which seems like an odd choice for a Japanese show, unless they’re making a deliberate reference to it being a quasi-rampaging movie monster in GB2. I may be reading way too much into that, though. Check out Libby at 16:17, among other appearances.
