GB web series..

You have to take into consideration that he’s only 12.

Looking forward to seeing the film, HyFive.

I hate to be the killjoy, but…

With the track record of fanfilms that actually went anywhere, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Sorry, but I’m expecting this to take the route all other fanfilms take. It never gets finished. Kudos for you if you actually do, though. That will actually put you in the top 2 percentile.

Honesty I’m with Belmont as far as fan films go, they hardly ever get finished. Trust me, I know this. However, as for the uniforms, you need to reverse them if you’re going to insist on using different colors. A dark jumpsuit at night will not show up well, especially since I know you don’t have the funds for proper lighting (not an attack, just a fact). Khaki during night time shots and use the Navy during the day, if you must use different colored flight suits.

Also, I’m going to say this now, if you have no acting experience, and cannot contract (for free) decent actors, I highly suggest you cut the project untill you can. Fans commonly make films with them as the stars and have no basis for acting, and it really detracts from the film. So try some acting excersises and maybe do some highschool drama courses before you set foot in front of the camera.

Also read up on some filming, long cuts are god awful and a pain to watch. There’s a lot you’ll need to know to make a decent fan film, there’s tons you will need to know to make a good one.

Good luck.

lol don’t worry. I’ve had Acting Experience. School Drama. Great class. Also i take a film class. so yeah… I have a Hitachi HDD DVD hybrid. not an HD camera but gets the job done. I use AE to do my effects. I haven’t managed to make a perfect ghost yet but eventually. Also i would like to add once again. It’s not a fan film. It’s a series like RGB only live action. So no worries. Thanks for the support all! Go ahead have it! :crunch:

Kid, you are a fan. You are making an unofficial, unlicensed film.

Ergo, you are making a fanfilm.

Yes i am a fan. but it’s a series not a film so it’s not a fan film. It could be called something else like a Fan series. Besides what does it matter What it is. It makes no difference. If you don’t like the Idea or don’t like this topic stop coming back to reply! No one is going force you to watch it. So stop complaining. It really gets on my nerves.

I hate to be the bad guy, but I’m going to tell you how a few things are, you can choose to ignor me like so many people have, and only learn in the end I’m right. Yes, I’m just going to out and say it…

You’re 12 years old, which there’s nothing wrong with that, however I can only count on one hand good actors who are so young. One of the key elements of creating a movie is to suspend disbelief amoungst your target audience, you’re already asking that we believe that a 12 year old has moved away from his guardian’s home and is now busting ghosts with his other friends. The logic in this story line alone is completely moot.

A more logical story line that you should consider is not that you’re part of some rouge Ghostbusters team, but part of a Young Ghostbusters initiation program. Kind of like how many local police stations have ride along programs, this creates something much more ground, and something more people would be able to believe. Also the idea of your parents being killed by demons is silly. People don’t die in Ghostbusters. Dan Akroyd states this very clearly, ghosts terrorize, manipulate and even come close to killing people or taking over the world, but people don’t die.

Nix the Venkman relationship; while it is more common, for some assinine reason, to have a character related to Egon the entire relation to film counterparts was over used and cliche to the point of annoyance. In fact, it’s maybe one of the things about Braxtan Film’ movies I dislike the most. Keep your characters original, Peter Venkman’s son/nephew/daughter/highschool lover/mail man is tired and boring.

Wait. I mean it, wait untill you’re older, you’re at an age now where you think you can accomplish anything with amazing results and everyone will like it. It’s not true, the internet is a cruel place, we are ALL cruel people (different people at different levels). 12 years I can only assume you have no were near enough amature film know how to pull this off. This isn’t an insult, this is a fact, I think what you’d like to do is really a neat idea. But you have a lot to do before you can really consider taking on a project like this:

A GOOD video camera. Digital home movies have a wonderfully annoying grain to them, which your camera has in spades. Save up for a really killer camcorder, and do your research. Find what Mini DV Camcorder will work for you.

Better props. Kudos to your first time proton pack build, it looks like it was a lot of funt o do, and clearly you’ve been bitten by the prop bug, to which you will have tons of fun. But you’re props are not film ready. Keep at it, and keep building, and you will be soon.

An actual production team. My amature production team consists of a director, Assistant director, director of photography, a lighting technician, sound technician and designer, a grip, best boy and several more off hand technicians. These jobs are not shared, they’re individual’s jobs they have to keep track of.

More actors. You will find some great actors that might be interested in helping you with your fan film in highschool. Not so much in middle school. Without a good rounded cast a fan film will be dead in the water.

Patience. Now is not the time for a project like this at your age, my friend, now is the time for you to have lots of fun with your props and run around and do good off films. It’s not time for something serious, because you’re not ready.

Best of luck.

It’s a message board.

Get a helmet.

You know what? I’m going to give you some advice, son. I’ve been in the ghostbusters web community since the time you were first learning to walk.

If you don’t want feedback on something, don’t post at all. We’re not a bunch of mindless zombies that are going to rain sunshine, rainbows and skittles upon you because you want to make a fan “series.” Sure. Good for you. A couple of us are trying to be realistic with you. More than ten years of people coming on the boards saying “We have this awesome fanfilm coming soon!,” and seeing nothing almost a decade later has made some of us not expect much.

Nowhere in my post did I say that your idea was stupid. You just decided, the 12-year-old that you are, to get all defensive and throw an ADD fit because big bad Belmont didn’t give you loads of encouragement and shower praise upon you. You decided to come to that conclusion all on your own.

This is a public message board, not a day care. Now get your undies un-wadded and continue your fanfilm. Prove us wrong and surprise us with a finished product.

Dude I may be young but I have Skillz. Me and my friend who play Rob and Josh. Are about the right size. I’m 5’6 he’s 5’7

and the video up there with the proton beam. I look shorter because it’s about a year and half old.

Trust me. Seriously. I know what I’m doing.

I just downloaded this pretty sweet GB techno remix for a theme. It’s by Some guy who calls him self Beutifull life pretty nice song.

Fine. Since you have “SkillZ” and can handle critisizm I’ll paint this with less words:

Your props are not ready.

Your camera sucks.

You’re 12.

I’m trying really hard to be friendly, but my friend, you’re not making it easy. Your proton beam test did not show any “skillz” and you honestly look 12, hieght has nothing to do with age. The mere fact that you believe that says a lot.

Want to prove something? You have a week to edit a trailer using on the spot footage. No SFX, and quality of props will not be taken into consideration.

You also have a minimum limit of 25 cuts, and it can be no more than sixty seconds.

Minimum 5 different locations. 3 of which in costume.

Prove yourself, and I’ll appologise.

Are you talking about the camera in the test footage up there. because that wasn’t my video camera. that was a regular camera. before i got my new camera.

Also are you saying i can’t use special effects or i can it just won’t make you like it more.

No special effects. Your 60 second trailer has to communicate your story, and story alone.

Here you go, this is what I’ll be looking for, and the parameters behind what I’m calling “The Gauntlet.”

You will be composing a 60 second Trailer (not teaser) for your series.

It must be 60 seconds of footage, actual ORIGINAL footage. No blackouts with text or logos, no stock footage.

Must feature more than two characters.

Must have at least 25 cuts.

Minimum of 5 different locations.

Three of which are in FULL Ghostbusters costume.

Only one of these locations can be your house (this includes backyard or front yard, and also includes your friends homes).

Your entire story must be communicated through the trailer.

What I’ll be looking for:

Use of depth of field.

Use of proper angles and composition (no Johnnie’s).

Lighting technique.

Quality of Actors (age, ability, technique).

Quality of film footage.

Quality of sound and sound design.

Use of Music and musical design.

What I will not be looking at:

Prop construction and deisgn.

Special Effects.

ACCOMPANIED BY:

A two minute aside of said story. In proper format, and without any script holes, which include:

Hammers.

Logic Issues.

Economy Issues.

Conflicts resolved outside of area of play.

For this part I will be looking at:

Composure.

Objectives.

Conflicts.

Logic.

Interesting Original Story.

You have one week for this. Next Friday I will be looking for your product. No excuses.

I say just let him put out what he wants and then give him pointer’s on how to fix it. Dan I understand what your saying but let him put out what he wants and then tell him where he may need improvement.

lol thats what i was going to do. I will follow some of Dans expectations. But I’m going to have some effect in the trailer. Because the series is about busting. But this will be fun making a live action boogieman :boogieman: . He’s in the trailer.

And Dan Yes I know your trying to help. but But like Ecto said you should let me do it my way and if you don’t like one of the things say it. And you can’t say my camera sucks. because you haven’t seen it in action that was just a regular picture camera.

Oh and Dan the trailer might not come out on Friday because i asked some one from Indy morgul to do Voice over work so yeah. :whatever:

Dan, seriously? Give the kid a break. I think it’s awesome that he’s wanting to make movies. Plus I don’t know of a whole lot of 12 year olds that can work with after effects. As for your “Gauntlet”, that’s ridiculous. Are you or were you a film school major? Because I have known a lot of film school guys who are intolerant of other peoples ideas that they feel are below them. I think that it’s awesome that he’s doing something that he loves and that he wants to share with the community. To be honest, I had gotten out of Ghostbusters, but when a friend came to me and talked about doing a GB film/series, it re sparked my love for the franchise. I suppose that when we finally premiere our series that you’ll have qualms about it as well.

Just so we’re clear, I have a degree in video production and work for a production house here in Knoxville. My friend who is handling the effects, has done graphics for a couple of production houses here as well. My cinematographer is an extremely talented writer/director as well as one the senior editors for the production house I work for. We are shooting the show on a Panasonic DVX 100 B, cutting it on AVID as well as Final Cut and the effects are being done on After Effects, and 3d Studio.

But we’re not doing this show for the artistic merit, we’re doing it because we’re fans of Ghostbusters and because we want something to share with the community. Granted, we are using decent equipment and we have technical training, but that’s not the point. The point is that he’s young, he’s excited about his project and he wants to share it with all of the ghostheads. Stop giving the kid a hard time and let him do his thing. Remember, you don’t have to watch it

Dude your really nice. Maybe the Oregon GB could team up Knox GB against some bad a** ghoul

Well said Dark!

No problem  We actually threw around an idea of having nearby GBs or franchises show up for a huge climactic

battle but the the amount effects work would have been astronomical! Plus trying to direct all those people would be a nightmare.

I hear ya Dark, I’ve been in projects where it is just hard to get 10 people in a film LOL.
