GB1 Gizmo and Daughterboard Kit (Sanyo ICC-808D replica)

EctoLabs presents the GIZMO 8400 - a Sanyo ICC-808D replica that is true to the dimensions of the original calculator circuitboard, complete with accurate components and adjustable lighting effects.

The GIZMO 8400 comes as a partially-assembled kit - all the electronics and custom components have been pre-made and finished for you so there is absolutely NO SOLDERING, WIRING OR PAINTING REQUIRED!

Note: If you are looking for a GB2 style gizmo and daughterboard, details of our GIZMO 8900 kit can be found separately HERE

Features

The main circuitboard is 3D printed using a three-colour process from original models to create a smooth surface that mimics the brown board, metallic green traces and gold contacts of the original Sanyo calculator. The daughterboard aims to match the colour of those seen in the first movie and includes a heavy duty 50mm steel belt clip.

Included in the kit are all the real resistors, capacitors, transistors and diodes you need to accurately reproduce the layout of the 808D circuit. Simply attach each one to the pre-made holes on the board, cut the wires to size and secure to the back using a hot-melt glue gun. Also included is a set of eight glass VFD tubes sourced from Russia or Eastern Europe - a good visual replacement for the rare GDT Nixie tubes used by Sanyo.

In the case of older components that are no longer available, fully finished replicas have been made exclusively for this kit. This includes the four white IC chips (each with their own accurate numbers and markings) and the black IC chips which are matched closely to reference photos and decorated with Sanyo branded markings.

Lighting Effects and Electronics

For the lighting effects, nine super bright multicolor LEDs have been integrated into the specially designed ‘nixie shelf’ and ‘error box’ assembly. These are controlled by two buttons on the rear panel of the Gizmo - press the black button to cycle through the pre-programmed light patterns and press the red button to change the color of the current pattern.

The working electronics are based around a micro Arduino board with all-metal toggle and momentary switches. This will be assembled, pre-programmed and tested before shipping, so no need for any coding skills either. Just attach the cables from the nixie shelf to the switch assembly using the 3-pin connector, connect a 9V battery (not included) and you are good to go! For the tinkerers, a micro USB socket is accessible from the side of the Gizmo which allows you to upload your own Arduino sketches to control the lights in whatever way you like.

Here is a video demonstration of all the available patterns and colors:

Very very interested

I’d be interested.

Great to see there’s interest in these, thank you

The first run will definitely be going ahead with 12 kits available to ship in a few weeks time. I’ll update the original post with full details of the final kits, and contact those of you who have registered your interest, as soon as they are ready to go.

Dave

Any thoughts of offering just the light kit setup for preexisting gizmos? I’d love to add one to mine

INTERESTED!!!

Definitely interested need to upgrade like crazy.

I’m interested in a kit … put me down for one

Come assembled? I’d be interested if they came together. :ok_hand:t3:

The kits are ‘part assembled’ - meaning that all the electronics work and various custom pieces are done for you. You just need to put it all together with nothing more than a glue gun, a pair of wire cutters, pliers and a screwdriver.

Interested! Are you looking at GB2 versions as well?
