There are so many horror stories about PayPal from over the years. I’ve had a few myself.
I hope that the better man wins here and that you can come away with this PayPal abilities restored. I’m more of a Google Checkout kind of guy, but the inexplicable decision to take this all away from you is unfounded.
Trust me, Amazon is a very good company to sell stuff with. They don’t charge you listings if you sell as an individual. They just take a percentage of the sale if it sells. They also give you $4.99 to pay for standard shipping. They also deposit the money into your checking account in about 5 days.
I think AJ was talking about Amazon Payments for GBFans; but yes, Amazon isn’t a bad place to sell.
Be careful about trying to open yet another Paypal account; I’d advise against it at least until you can get an actual answer from someone (anecdotal evidence says that they can use some convoluted method to connect accounts and then you’re really screwed). I’d suggest checking the PP discussion boards on ebay as IIRC quite a few people have run into this issue.
what if we all here wrote in about it? saying that we are all going to switch what we use now. everyone here quits paypal and uses google checkout. that will cost them some business. i would gladly write in to them.
AJ, my website’s providers have some great credit card acceptance options. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but your really should at least look into it again. I know bank fees are off-putting, but consider some of my uncited (can’t remember from where) market research that shows people are 16%-35% more willing to spend from a credit account than that of a debit account (like paypal -although it does credit functions and features)
You’ll make for the fees with sales volume, trust me
AJ - when you login, did Paypal give you any processes to resolve in order to re-activate your account? Or did they just shut it down?
A friend of mine has been using Paypal for several years - and has had his account frozen 3 times.. each time I was able to get the account unlocked within 48 hours.
Had a similar issue when I applied for a Paypal debit card last year. To make a long story short, after countless phone calls and emails to executive assistants, they told me straight up that I would not be able to use Paypal anymore. Paypal told me this. Years of only good business with them out the window. I was shocked and hurt, but thankfully my wife still has an account which we are able to use.
I think everything is up and running now with Google Checkout.
GBFans now only accepts Credit Cards. No PayPal to worry about, no BS. No worries.
I will have a post up on the mainpage soon… and might send out a mass email. Everything in the shop is currently 10% for everyone to celebrate Google Checkout. Supporting Members will take between 15%-25% depending on your level.
If you think it is worth keeping Paypal as a viable-transaction option - I would argue for it. They may be a horrible-large-corporation with (as pointed out with a great image) their decisions made by blindfolded monkeys throwing darts at random - requesting an accounting of how many buyers have posted for issues in their transaction (of course dismissing anything older than 3-5 years), then arguing that your account has been in good standing since it’s opening. You have done a fair number of transactions through Paypal and want to continue business with them.
Don’t bother arguing with the low-level grunts… always push above their level. One thing I pride myself on is being a great… diplomat during these situations. Keeping detailed noted on the phone call and focusing on what you want and what they need in order to allow you to continue using their system for transaction is paramount.
But, again, only if you think it is worth keeping.
Paypal is owned by Ebay, which is constantly coming up with new and interesting ways to annoy/screw sellers with minimal chance of ‘appeal’. Coincidence?
I withdrawed my money, but will not be reverting back to PayPal on this site. I might consider it an option, but from now on.. I will only use PayPal for purchases. There is absolutely no protection for sellers.
