So far, so good! The new site looks great!
Unfortunately I do believe the forum is struggling right now. I am working on making some changes to the settings to hopefully improve forum loading. The site is on a different server that should be faster. But I know a lot of users are having trouble logging in.
I see you’ve redecorated the place, don’t like it.
Nah everything looks great, and bugs are bound to happen the first day. Here’s to the future.
The custom picture upload for account avatars seems to be glitchy at the moment, it states “Uploading… 100%”, but gives me the message “FAILED” when I try to save the change.
“I have a hamper?”
Is that on the forum or on the site itself?
Looking good! Excited to be here.
Maybe it depends on size of the image file?
Probably. It needs to be sub 5mb according to the profile section on the main site. It doesn’t say that on the forum side.
Idk, I’m having the same issue uploading a 13 kb image (173x161)
I don’t think it would be fair to comment too much straight after launch while all the teething problems get ironed out. But at the moment, the forum is very slow and sluggish. Seconds of delays between clicks and actions like the [Reply] box make you think nothing is happening. And sometimes pages simply don’t load past the cyclotron screen until you refresh the browser.
Claiming franchises doesn’t appear to be working, but I have reported that specific issue as it gave an error screen.
On the forum. I initially tried with a file that was probably too large at 44.8kb, but I tried with a smaller file at 20.1kb, and it’s still giving me the same error. I was able to upload it onto the website side of things without any issues in contrast.
I see there’s a dark mode option in the profile settings, is that up and running as a feature, or is it currently inactive?
And whilst typing this reply, the type box notified me that the drafts function was offline, and then latter had “draft error”.
So I just made some changes to the server configuration and now it seems to be much faster. We will have far less ‘errors’, slowness and missing features.
So I didn’t actually know we had that enabled. Maybe it is disabled and it isn’t clear. The avatar is supposed to import from the main profile photo on the site and it would do it when you login.
Drafts may not be enabled right now. Is that a feature people would like?
Dark mode is enabled on the main site, there is a toggle on and off there. On this forum, I will need to look into that more. I may have not fleshed out the dark mode theme like I did the light mode.
Dark mode now enabled.
I realized that I had downsized the server because during development it was only me accessing it, and I had no reason to have it be any larger. I forgot to make it bigger so that was actually causing a lot of the issues we were seeing. It is now the larger size. I am also working on enabling caching of images and file uploads, offloading that will also speed things up.
Brilliant!
Thanks for having this as a feature.
Edit: It seems the forum doesn’t even like me trying to switch the avatar to the system-assigned profile pic, or the Gravatar, saving the change with any option produces the “Failed” response.
Yeah. That avatar upload function just is not working. I am looking for reasons why.
Can confirm, the forum is running better for me today vs. yesterday.
Yeah, it’s significantly faster today.
I don’t quite understand the disconnect between the forum account and GBfans accounts, though. You can have different avatars for each and setting your name etc on one doesnt update the other.
This…is gonna take some getting used to. I admit at first blush I was thinking “Why does this feel like a step backward? All the stuff I’m used to seeing I can’t see anymore” but I’m already starting to pick up how the new stuff works.
It’s tough being old sometimes.
