A large draw for our site was the ability to add your props and builds to the site as image galleries that appear on your profile. This feature disappeared for 15 years, but it is now back.
However… the number of people who have actually used it is extremely small. I expected many people to show up and post their props that they have made in the intervening 15 years, and yet only a small number of you have done that (Thanks to those that have!).
What happened in the meantime, is that many people started extensive build logs on the forum that comprise of dozens or hundreds of posts each. The benefit is that more people are likely to interact with the build logs on the forums, post comments, ask questions.. etc.
I am looking for feedback in how to address this problem going forward.
Our new forum software is actually quite good for things like this. We can actually have templates and forms that you can fill out and it would help create the build log (or update existing builds).
Would it make sense to expand on the build logs here on the forum, and have the site inherit the builds from the forums?
Alternatively, should posting your build on to the site have them automatically post to the forum?
Finally, should posting on either one just update each other at the same time. A comment on the forum gets added as a comment on the prop page and an update on the prop page makes an update over there, to keep them in sync?
How should build logs work?
- Make it work together! (bidirectional)
- Posting on the forum → copies to site.
- Posting on the site → copies to the forum.
- Keep em separated! (do nothing)
