I have recently started my first build using venkmans plans for a ghost trap. I have got the thing built, painted and ready to add the details but have ran into a snag. I bought Colin’s dress kit (very nice I might add) for the trap that includes the front, side and back plates and when i went to put them on, they were too large. i went back and checked my measurements on the build and they match the plan, are there 2 sizes of traps?
I appologize in advance if this is a stupid question but im learning.
Yes the GB1 and GB2 cosmetic plates are slightly different, both were built to my trap kits dimensions which should work fine for scratch built traps since you can build the trap to fit the plating. Is it off by much, can you trim the plates?
Remind me which set you got, was it the 6 piece set or 7 piece? I may be able to solve your dilemma for you as I have some extra plates around.
Colin, im gonna try and cut the plates , just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing something, and ill for sure build it diffrently next time, but as i said i am new to this. What do you recommend to cut the plates. i have an orbital jigsaw with a 36 tooth bio-metal blade, think it will work?
Also, everything looked great from my order. parts all looked awesome. im sure ill have a follow up order with you shortly. thanks again for your work.
oh, and i believe i got the 7pc set because you were out of the 6 piece at the time. either way, im gonna try and cut it tonight when i get off from work.
The 7 pc set is the GB1, i remember now when I gave you the deal I didn’t know you had the trap already built.
That should work, mask the area you are cutting off with masking tape, this will help with avoiding scratches and lube the blade, cut slowly. A good set of sheet metal shears will work but may deform the plate so i’d go the jigsaw route first.
gotcha, im gonna give it a try. and thanks again
Colin,
Plates cut perfectly, ill start putting this thing together this afternoon. Thanks for your assistance. If you dont mind, i have a couple more questions for you.
What size are the screws recommended to put the plates on. i know they are the socket head like we sell at work, so i was gonna get some today while i was there and also… what is the easiest way to attach the rods. are those preassure pins mounted to them or what?
BTw… got my v-hooks yesterday. thanks for that
#8 socket caps for the main plates, #6 for the smaller ones, #4 for the vector plate and resistor mounting. Line up the pins on the rods and drill 1/8" holes, then tap them in, should be snug so maybe put a piece of plastic or something over the rod when you hammer it in.
