Took me a while but I think it came out rather nice. Which is funny because after I was done carving it I was kinda disappointed in it. It wasn’t until a day or two later when I saw it for the first time with fresh eyes that I was a bit impressed with myself. enough chatter here are the pix:
I’m also a bit bummed that the bottom is starting to get soft and moldy already and I carved it out…Thursday[?] - I think. I hope it lasts until Halloween =/ So FYI if anyone plans on carving anything FOR Halloween, I’d start the project the night before or two nights before.
PS: I also added a toothpick to the bottom section of the logo because I was afraid of sagging and/or falling off.
PPS: I MAY experiment with a RED light - if I could find one.
Cover all the exposed cuts in petroleum jelly.. that will make it last longer. I think there are other tips for jack o lantern preservation on the web as well.
It might be good to do that again on a foam pumpkin, so you have him year after year.
Micheals crafts has the big fake ones that are carvable for 50% off right now if you don’t mind carving it agian at least it would last for a couple of years. Looks BTW!

I was talking about it to the wife, and she said it might be better as one of 3d relief carvings, without actual cutouts in it, just deeper cuts for lighter transparency.
That way the ghost could be brightest, but the NO logo portion could also be lit.
I’ve been meaning to try something like a relief foam pumpkin for a number of years now myself, after seeing what others have done. I think the secret is to have the light inside on while you work. I need to see if there’s a youtube video on how to do that.
I actually got one of the fake pumpkins from Michael’s and made a Batman logo for my 3-year-old nephew. I’ll see if I can post pix of it. I thought about doing it agin for the foam-pumpkin just so I’d have it forever.

Yeah. The tough part is remembering to scrape the inside to a decent thickness before carving. I traced a stencil with a poker and cut out the correct portions, then just peeled the skin off the rest. A little more scraping inside got it to light evenly.
