Guys, I know how to save GBIII, and I need your help!

Hey there, GBFans,

I’ve been a lurker for a while, I’m a comic book writer/artist and a life-long GB fan. I’ve gotten tips on building props and suits from these boards over the years, and thanks to you guys I have a pretty solid GB costume that’s my go-to every Halloween!

But what I’m here for is to get you guys to help save Ghostbusters III by making sure it isn’t a movie. I know the power of fans, you guys got Dan Schoening on the GB comic, and I feel like you can make this happen too:

the future of Ghostbusters should be in a live-action TV show, not a movie.

It’s cheaper, it allows us as fans to warm up to new cast members, and for a movie that doesn’t know what direction it wants to go in, it allows many different stories to be told, while we as fans get MORE GHOSTBUSTERS.

So, all I ask is you spread the word and shout it from the rooftops!

MAKE GHOSTBUSTERS A LIVE-ACTION TV SHOW!!!

Thanks for you time, I hope you’re ready to believe me

We’ll never have the kind of shouting power that would successfully convince Sony not to pursue a third movie if it wanted to.

Booooo not with that attitude!

Sony would rather make big bucks at once and capitolize on that, rather than pump millions into a show that could possibly flop. Then the merchandise flops and they are left with quite a loss. With a movie they can pump that well till its dry and then move on.

A realistic attitude?

It ain’t gonna happen.

Your best bet is a web show, like Ghostbustin 911 or Alabama Ghostbusters. Fan made and produced.

Ernie Hudson has even done a cameo on GB 911 and lent his voice for Alabama GB.

Sadly Dan says he does not work with “amatuers” in an interview a few years back. I dunno maybe if you give him enough Crystal Skull he might change his mind… :sigh:

While the enthusiasm is appreciated, I don’t see any amount of fan noise making a difference.

It is fun to think about the possibilities, though.

You would need to get the support of the entire Ghostbusters community, and, frankly, I myself want to see a third movie and fully support Reitman and Aykroyd in their quest to get it made. I’m sure a few others here want that, too. So you would already lose support from a number of people. Secondly, making a Ghostbusters television show would be highly expensive. Television shows have a fraction of the budget a movie has. That’s why you have ghost series like Supernatural or Ghost Whisperer, which, for the most part, portray ghosts as actors with white powder on their faces to give them a pale complexion. A Ghostbusters show would need money for ghosts effects, property damage, proton throwing, location filming (in New York), and the like.

Instead of willing the death of Ghostbusters 3, how about you support it? Hold out hope that it’s the good movie that we’re promised it would be? Because if the flick does well and is worthy of our love, then that may lead to more movies (and more adventures, as you mentioned) or maybe even a new cartoon series and comic book series. And then we all win.

I’ll support a live action show as long as Guy LeDouche commentates.

VIVA LEDOUCHE!

Because live-action shows dependent on special effects are always soooo successful.

Wow, I’m surprised the idea of even more Ghostbusters is being met with such negativity!

I’m not willing the death of GBIII, i’m just suggesting that a movie might not be the best avenue for it, and think TV might suit it better. Clearly it’s taken them forever to pin down what I assume will be yet another “we have to save the world”-type story, which I don’t really know if I want to see, so why not tell a bunch of small-scale stories instead? If they’re going to introduce a new team, why not let people warm up to them gradually and get into the meat of what being a Ghostbuster actually is, and tell some interesting stories while you do it?

Also, as far as “Because live-action shows dependent on special effects are always soooo successful.” is concerned, the two most popular tv shows in the entire world right now are The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, which are both very FX heavy, and call for tons of costuming and locations. But I assume your tone was one of seriousness and I’m just supporting your point, right?

Oh also, I believe a season of Game of Thrones costs about $45 mill, which while expensive is still probably less than half of what they’d spend on a new GB movie

It’s not that we are against a series of well-made, interesting, entertaining stories. It’s just that we’ve been around here for more than a day and our expectations have been adjusted accordingly.

It’s a nice idea, but wholly unrealistic. You might as well be petitioning for a SeaQuest movie staring Sean Connery.

I know. Let’s make it Game of Thrones style and have all the ghostbusters die on first season (except for slimer).

Just say that you had the enthusiasm and support of the entire GB fan community, how would you approach the studio with this pitch? I’m not saying this is a terrible idea, I just don’t think it’s well thought out.

Sure, that’s a lot of money. But it’s also spread out amongst ten episodes, so each episode will have a considerably lower budget. I don’t mean to be negative, but I’d rather see a movie and then a series or cartoon following it. And more sequels.

Are you talking story-wise or just concept wise?

Because my pitch concept-wise would be everything I’ve said thus far:

You’re trying to breathe new life into a sci-fi/fantasy franchise that no one can seem to decide on a direction for as far as a big budget movie is concerned, so why not try something else?

TV is hot right now

The two most watched TV shows in the world are sci-fi/fantasy shows based on pre-existing, arguably niche franchises

Even if the season budget were $50 million, that’s still waaaaay cheaper than what you’d spend on a movie

The TV series formula allows the telling of many small stories, making having to pin down one huge, movie-sized event less of an issue

It provides fans the chance to get to know a new team (assuming that’s their plan) and develop fondness for new characters over time instead of just thrusting a new team upon them and hoping they like it

It’s more Ghostbusters for less money, with opportunities for bigger revenues, once you factor in advertising, etc etc

What’s not to like?

Yeah each episode would have a smaller budget, but GoT has movie-level effects, costuming and locations every single episode, and I would have to assume that you could do the same quality of show with The Ghostbusters, as they arguably have less of an effects need than GoT

I know, I know, ghosts and blasters and the like, but how much would that really take up episode to episode? Probably not as much as you’d think

So “who ya gunna call” about this? Who are you going to talk to? I’m all for a movie, tv show, cartoon, anything really if it gets more GB stuff. Just saying “let’s change the world” doesn’t change it. It has to be backed with action.

What is your proposed action?

Not being negative, I just want to know the plan.
