I find this intriguing… during an interview with Dan Aykroyd in 2007/08 he was asked could he see Ghostbusters as a live-action series and he was sure with a ‘no’. Fast forward to now… and we see a potential shift to a more franchise orientated direction.

A TV show, not focused on the effects- take a look at AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D., Stargate, [insert any name of teen-schlock-vampire-warewolf-supernatural-FOX-WB-show here]- but a show that involves the exact universe we have all expanded upon… the franchise.

Smallville ran with the ultimate goal of reintroducing the characters to a new, younger, audience but with an aim of keeping the core-audience interested. This led into the movie revamps (however they turned out and where followed).

The same could be done with Ghostbusters- tying with Ghostbusters has expanded since GBII into GB International.. headed by our CEO of Venkman, tech supplied by Stantz and training supplied by Zeddemore. The universe follows a franchise through the operations and activities (similair to GB911 or AGBs) fast-forward to a season finale (or movie) and a penultimate scene of the 3 heads of the company come up against a formidable foe… when all seems lost to hear the wails of distant sirens, flashes of blue and white through windows and a hundred franchisees ‘heat em up’ and back up the heads.

Clichè? Yes. But a scene that movies have had a hundred times and thrilled fans? Yes.

Or do we have an episode 1 or 2 ending / cliff-hanger where we lose the 3 heads of the company… the franchisees don’t make it in time and our formidable foe continues on their path.. only to be followed by the son of Venkman and those who worked out of head office- side-by-side with the heads?

There is high potential, especially in this time, were television has become to attract movie-talent and allows more time to expand on a universe that may not work in a film… yet. Can we imagine the Game of Thrones movie, without any series? Or how The Sopranos would have played out in 90-120minutes? I mean it took 20 years before The Simpsons made their movie :sigh:

Whilst our ‘new to the forums’ OP has a gung-■■ attitude, with high-expectations and thoughts with little substance of follow-through… the idea, and potential, is there. The problem, as I see it, is the idea needs to be developed by those WITH connections or with the inner-cicle of IP holders…. until then, it stays where our entire world has always been… playing dress-up and enjoying a universe that remains to exists within us.

Hahaha little substance of follow through? What does that even mean?

You know what’s funny? In the Electronic Press Kit for Ghostbusters II, Rick Moranis said he’d love to see the movie become television series. Back in the early 90’s they may have had a chance but many movies have been turned into television shows and often they don’t last because the movie was too big to be transformed into something smaller.

There are exceptions of course. I think Stargate SG-1 was the best series that was not only based on but a canon continuation of a big budget film. This kind of luck is extremely hard to come by.

Turning New York, an expensive city to film in, would be even more expensive to transform back into the mid 80’s. Boardwalk Empire is a good example of period television but violence sells that show, not comedy.

Personally I got over everything GB3 related a long time ago. What’s ahead, in Egon’s words, “It would be bad.”

I could 100% see this happening at this point, at least as a pilot. They did this with Beverly Hills Cop last year but the pilot wasn’t picked up.

You don’t need to turn NY into the 80’s if it’s a new team that takes place in the present

You don’t need to spend a ton of time in NY proper if your show is about GBs out doing jobs

This is still a viable option to continue the franchise, as seen here: ComingSoon.net - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More.

See, I’m not crazy! They’re just not thinking outside the box enough!

Beverly Hills Cop was going to be a TV show? Damn…that’s actually a good idea. But it didn’t get picked up? Wow. Considering the ■■■■ that DID get picked up, they could have done a lot worse than running with the second highest grossing movie that came out in 1984.
