I’ve just got myself an aluminium thrower and am in the process of getting the components ready. I’ve got my GB Fans hat lights through the post today, however, I’m not sure how best to install them.
I bought the sockets to mount them in but found they look like this:
Looking on here, it seems there have to be threaded LED’s that sit in the socket and then the bottom bit is wired up from there.
I’m going to be getting the Jupiter light kit for the thrower. My question is - am I better just using the hat lights and tapping the gun body out to the right side for screwing them in place, or do I get the gun kit and replace the Jupiter LED’s with some of the screw variants and keep the sockets? Thought I’d get a bit of info from the people in the know.
Alternatively, I guess I could use the sockets to secure the hat lights but remove the bottom part to allow insertion of the Jupiter LED, but I don’t know yet if they’d sit snugly in place.
I do not have the sockets for the hat lights, but in order to keep my led’s inside the hat lights I bought some led clips that I’m going to invert and thread the wire through before snapping them up inside the hat light.
If you want to keep the socket, you could try to bore a hole big enough to thread your jupiter led’s through before putting your hat light ontop
That seems to be what everyone I know that uses the sockets does. It’s a metal post held in with a plastic ring. Slide a sharp X-acto blade between the white disc on the bottom and the metal of the socket and pry a little, and it should pop off. Then just push the post out the top of the socket.
I got my Jupiter LED kit through. The LED’s are on some pretty hefty holders in some places - anyone have the Jupiter kit? I’m wondering how best to mount them - the orange hat light, for example. It’ll stick way out the way it is.
You need to replace the LEDs on the Jupiter kit with super bright mini LEDs. That’s what I did at least on the most recent pack I built. Also the Jupiter gun kit does not have a light for the orange hat light on the barrel. If you want that lit up you will have to splice into one of the other LEDs.
