Hi.............

Hello! This (apart from being my first post) is my first step into the world of Ghostbusting and all things ■■■■■… At work a few months ago a colleague mentioned that he had once done a fancy dress event in a Ghostbusters costume that he threw together in a couple of days so I thought it might be fun to have a to myself… Oh dear… I seem to have been bitten by the bug! I started doing a bit of research (as ya do) and thought “I can do this easily”, but once I started to dig a bit deeper I soon realized that a “thrown-together-in-a-couple-of-days” outfit just wouldn’t cut it for me. I thought I could just use some of the many different pieces of pipe I have in my workshop, until I saw quite how many different sizes were needed and very few of the bits I had were quite right. The problem with being in the UK is that everything is in damn metric sizes!

Anyhoo.. Enough of that ranting stuff. I’m building his from the ground up and while it won’t be screen accurate enough for most folks, I hope it will at least give a passable impression for the general public. I am using mainly plywood, PVC sheet and pipe and a bit of aluminium for the wand handle and barrel. I bought myself an Arduino Uno to do the lighting and used an already existing sketch (I think from someone on here) for the pack lights but the limited number of outputs on the Uno just doesn’t do it for me (see what I mean about being bitten by the bug??? This was supposed to be cheap and cheerful!). All I’ve got made so far is the motherboard, Ion arm, EDA, Booster, Power Cell and most of the Belt Gizmo. Lots still to do and want to try to do as much of this myself (with regards to construction and sourcing parts) but will obviously be picking at the very knowledgable brains on here for tips and hints.

Jeez, I go on, don’t I!

Anyway… Hi!

Sounds like you are off too a good start. There are lots of people on here willing to help you out. Also tons of forums you can get a whole lot of info from.

Welcome aboard, akc! Always good to see another UKer sign up.

Don’t forget to stop on over at the U.K. Ghostbusters forum as well, it should prove useful for supplies for your build.

Thanks for the replies and warm welcome guys! Looking forward to asking some dumb questions in the near future! I’ll also be posting pics of my WIP to help me get advice n tips along the way.
