but seriously does anyone have a step by step process i can use to do a GB1 suit? Also more specifically, would it be really hard to dye a sage color suit? i found some good cheap nomex suits but they are sage.
Easy dye recipe for a GB1 suit:
Buy a Desert/Tan/Khaki Nomex suit
Open box.
Sew on patches.
Wear.
Seriously, that’s all there is to it. A Desert/Tan/Khaki (They can be called any of these 3 colors depending on the suit and who sells it) Nomex (or CWU-27/P) flightsuit is just about the right color for GB1.
Nomex is a synthetic material, and as such does not take dye very well at all. The most you can hope to do is tint it, which usually isn’t necessary with a khaki suit. I can tell you that you’ll never get a sage or OD suit to be a khaki color. Ever. Barring, like, paint, which will look terrible. Occasionally you’ll find a khaki Nomex suit that isn’t quite the right shade of khaki (maybe a little too yellow or a little too red), in which case you’ll want to give it a brief dye bath in a color opposite the offending tone on the color wheel (purple to offset yellow, green to offset red, etc.), but that’s usually not the case.
Just keep checking eBay. You’re sure to be able to snag a khaki suit for about $50 or so, maybe even cheaper if you’re patient.
What jairus said, if you buy a Nomex you will not need to dye.
Tru-Spec brand suits also do not need to be dyed.
The only brand suit that needs dying is a Rothco because of the piss yellow color they come from the factory in.
I strongly adive against buying a Rothco because they are poorly made of cheap material, the zippers tend to fail and as stated above they require extra work to bring to screen-accuracy.
Do yourself the favor, dont fuck around. Buy the right suit the first time.
