The problem with splitscreen developement, is it takes a ton of horsepower to accompish smooth framerates, and as next gen games are now starting to use using the hardware horsepower as much as possible, split screen no longer becomes possible.
Yeah, tis a shame though.
I just replayed the PC version, and a couple things stood out.
Obviously, no online/lan mutliplayer. Then again, I don’t have to deal with the usual online ■■■■(dropping out, lack of teamwork, blatant douchery).
Many of the levels just had the same feel to them. Find out about the boss, follow it / search for it, go through a dozen waves of enemies, repeat until you reach the boss room. More puzzles could have helped, but I got the feeling all I had to do was just blast my way out of any problem. Who needs brains? I have an unlicensed nuclear accelerator.
Return to Hotel Sedgewick felt tacked on and half-finished. It probably would have been better to put Chef DeForrest in the first level, possibly fighting against Pappy Sargassi. That would have been cool.
More variety in the enemies. Oh, no. A dozen crawlers just came running toward me. Do I just blast away? Problem solved.
Street clothes for the boys in gray. Sure the uniforms look cool, but they wouldn’t wear them 24/7. And also, have them act a little more organic. Have Ray hook his particle thrower on the belt. Let Egon do something other than scan with the meter.
No crowd scene near the end, chanting and cheering as the Ecto-1B pulls up? No full version of the song? No visuals for the last speech during the credits? Someone dropped the ball there.
split screen would hav ebeen a bother, one full screen like army of one would have been cool.
split screen in the wii multiplayer works, but at times it can be hard to see, because everything is so much smaller. Next gen consoles would be better since they have higher res, but IMHO the best multiplayer would have been on pc via lan or the net. Many people, like ourselves have a home network with a number of pcs, and we used to love using teamspeak, and playing with our clan together online.
Friday nights were like a game party every week… man, we really miss those days!
I’m really not sure EA would have treated it any better than Atari, my past experience of EA is they love the games they love (mostly from studios they own) and anything else is a money grinder that is soon forgotten about. EA’s website also looks fancier and nicer but to be honest finding support for some of their games is a NIGHTMARE. Atari do suck, I just don’t think a huge deal would have been gained via EA. They have a lot of irons in a lot of other, bigger fires atm.
I was peeved the online play was axed in the PC version. I can understand why (there’s no decent framework for it on the PC you have to bootstrap it yourself, unlike PSN and XBox Live) but they could have at least owned up to that. There is the Games for Windows LIVE framework for Windows games but it doesn’t seem to get used a lot. GTA IV is the only game I own that uses it. There weren’t too many noticeable glitches in the PC version though, overall it felt pretty well polished and very well done.
I agree with the OP, it was an excellent game, one of the best I’ve played in a while. As an all-in theatrical and gameplay experience it ranks up there with my favourites like Mass Effect. The combination of the original writers and actors, the story itself, and the length and style of the game made it an action packed and great experience overall.
I don’t know, Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space didn’t sell well (especially Mirror’s Edge) and they both got support as well as additional DLC. Heck even Trivial Pursuit got DLC (though admittedly it would probably much cheaper and easier to incorporate DLC into that game). I’m not sure if they own the studios that developed those, but in any case I honestly believe they wouldn’t have done any worse.
Maybe if GB3 finally gets an official green light, and they also greenlight a Game around it, we’ll finally see some dlc to build hype? My only concerns about the dlc fad, is companies deliberately holding back on a final release, and then releasing paid updates which normally would have actually been included in a game a few years ago.
My worry will be that if GB3 gets greenlit, and a game along with it, the game comes out rushed and mediocre as so many other movie-games.
Ghostbusters the videogame was different, as we all know, and maybe because of that (no movie to promote etc, etc) they were able to take more time to get it right.
They already have the graphiocs engine and physics down pat. Thats half the work right there.. they just need new content, and levels, and they can put together something much faster now. And if they add multiplayer to the new pc game, they could probably make that available for this one as well.. ![]()
In one of the making of videos, the game designers were saying exactly this stuff.
i agree i was waiting the whole game to drive ecto, i wish it would have had side missions to do when you go back to the fire house, in a way like grand theft auto let you roam the city and take calls that come into you over the cb radio, and tie better achivements into that. that would have made the experience so much better and fun insted of just walking around the firehouse. Would ahve made a great game even better.
Yup, Terminal Reality already has the engine built for it. So that cuts some time. They also said they would be interested in doing a game for GB3 if a movie were made. I really hope for a different publisher though this time.
On another note:
I REALLY WOULD HAVE LIKED IF THEY KEPT THE PARADE STAGE.
Sort of like how the Nintendo DS version is set up… You have your main missions, but in between you have side missions to help you build up money slime and exoerience points, so you can boost your equipment… and you also have a free roaming mode, where you can just drive around NY and bust ghosts… and you do get to drive the Ecto-1, you can even turn the siren on and off… maybe not as grand-schemed as a big console with the excellent graphics, but still… it’s still cool you can do all this stuff in the DS version. ![]()
Some new multiplayer maps would have been good. The photos in another thread that featured the temple from GB 1
and the Van Horne subway from GB 2 would have been great to play on, even some other levels from based on
areas from the films and the RGB series.
Another thing that confuses me besides the lack of support, multiplayer, DLC, and all that crap is how Atari doesn’t respond to their forum posts.
You’d think that the employees, who had enough time to go and make accounts on the forum, would post there from time to time with answers.
I really feel like walking over the their headquarters and punching people in the face, but it’s late, it’s too far, I’m lazy, and I’d probably hurt myself more because I’m weak.
Yeah it sucks, its as if Atari tries to act like they didn’t even publish the game.
I had a dream that I found the multiplayer files in the PC version because of how it was just a port and managed to get it working.
That’s kind of sad but I wish it were true.
I can’t remember if the multiplayer executable shipped with the pc version or not.
If anything, all the multiplayer models we made should be on the disk. We made about 20 different multiplayer models at the last minute (Including a playable version of me) but Threewave decided to not use them for whatever reason. :\
It would be cool if someone could unlock those.
(These include the best version of the RGB ethereal GBs that I could make)
Oh, MAN!
WANT TO SEE!!   :!:
