ION Arm welds......

Open to suggestions on simulating the weld seams on the Ion arm. I tried some epoxy putty that I had laying around, but it was very old and didn’t dry/harden at all. I ended up scraping it off.

So now I’ll need to buy a new product to do the welds, so I thought I’d ask. BTW, I’m using a MMM resin cast arm.

Any ideas??

Hot glue usually works.

Go get some new plumber’s putty. That’s what I use for my welds. Here is an example of how it can look:

And it won’t melt in your hot car during the summer months like hot glue will.

Hot glue falls off pretty easy, especially if it gets too cold. I also recommend plumbers putty or some Ave’s Apoxie mold

I highly recommend milliput. It drys rock hard and ive never had it chip off or crumble etc.

I would listen to anything nick-a-tron says when it comes to this stuff. He’s pretty much a prodigy of prop building. Milliput it is.

Milliput two part epoxy is the way to go. I used it extensively in building my pack, not only for the welds but to strengthen it inside, its rock solid when it dries. You can get it from arts and crafts shops and you can get it in black so you can add the welds after you’ve painted if you like

Thanks All !! Good ideas…

That should be written into the prop building scriptures somewhere

Well I got some new plumber’s putty per mburkit and it worked out super!

Set up time is rather limited though. You gotta work pretty fast! Very solid for sure.

Oh no!! Hope I haven’t sinned against the “building scriptures”, FeinDTacticS !?

What exactly are we talking about when mentioning plumbers putty?

As far as i know, plumbers putty never hardens. its used to make water tight seals around sink drains. Its always soft, at least for a few years..

Also, if using this kind of material, there’s a very good technique that yields great looking results, but its a bit time consuming. I can make a little demo…

This is what I’m talking about:

Burkitts right, thats the stuff I used on my gun kit. But man it sets quick. Well I say I but Zombie pepellent worked it for me. But I watched dillengently

That’s the stuff, mburkit. I forgot the key word----EPOXY!

Right NHVenkman, 5 minutes goes fast!!

I wasted abit at first because I didn’t get it all applied/ shaped up in time. Best to work with small amounts.

If you make little balls of epoxy, about the size of a steel BB, and press them onto the start of your “weld line” then stacking them one by one and pressing, you’ll get a very convincing effect. Just like tig weld.
