Is it true one of the main reasons Ghostbusters 3 was.....

postponed so much in the 90s was because of some dispute between Harold Ramis and Bill Murray during the filming of groundhog day that led to some kind of grudge that ended with neither of them speaking to each other for many years thus making Ghostbusters 3 impossible to make after that? I heard it was something like Harold Ramis wanted Bill to do some of his scenes in Groundhog Day a certain way and Bill refused. So Harold just let Bill do the scenes his way to get the movie filmed and was angry with Bill for not cooperating leading to said grudge that lasted many years. I’ve seen Groundhog Day several times and I don’t think any of Bill’s scenes needed to be different. But that’s just me. But is this story actually true?

In a YouTube Harold Ramis video a falling out was stated during the wrap up of Groundhog Day. This I was never aware of myself but was happy to hear the made up but unfortunately it was while Harold was on his deathbed. So the story says.

It’s one of the reasons. There are others.

Bill Murray has said GBII was a disappointment and not the film he signed on to make. This made him not want to do others.

He’s also said nobody wants to see a group of old men busting ghosts.

And has said the original was good enough and it should be left alone.

And he’s said he doesn’t like sequels.

And that he’s never read a script he was satisfied with.

I wonder if Bill Murray could have been swayed to make GB3 regardless of how into he was if he and Ramis were still on friendly terms post- Groundhogs Day though. I say that because I’m pretty sure Murray wasn’t as into making GB2 but did it because of his friends.

I’ve read or seen interviews somewhere that basically Bill says GB2 ended up being a lot different than it was supposed to be and that the studio had too much input into things. The studio basically left them alone to do the first one and they were able to make the movie they wanted to make. Bill absolutely adores the first movie. We’ve seen that from various interviews and such. So I believe it was a combination of the studio and his falling out with Harold that led to no GB3. That all being said though, I do consider the video game to be GB3 and am more than happy that we at least got that from Bill.

I often wonder what the original script for GB2 was like. Don’t get me wrong I like GB2 for the most part but my biggest gripe with it was that Vigo went down too easy. I’ve always wanted to see a nice long bust that stretches beyond a single room.

I too agree GBVG is really GB3, it is the closest we’ll ever come to a third movie with all four original busters in one piece of work. It surpasses GB2 in many ways and the call back to GB1 with Shandor being the main villain.

Yeah, I actually like GB2 a lot. Not as much as GB1, but still I really enjoy it. But still, there’s some wondering how much better it could have been…

And GB:TVG really exceeded my expectations. But also makes me a lil bit sad, to think maybe we could’ve had THAT in movie form at one point, potentially…
