Wait, so that’s a serious discussion there about doubting that Annie Potts played Janine in both movies?
No.
Annie Potts, at least according to her, exerted more of her own preferences into the character - she basically followed their lead and costume design in the first movie, and as part of coming back for the second, wanted her to be more… 1989 I guess.
Now someone tell me why Rick Moranis didn’t want to come back for the second movie… THAT’S what I want to know…
Scheduling? Didn’t Honey I Shrunk The Kids come out in 1989 so he would habve been filming it at the same time as GB2.
I always said they made “Winston” more kid-friendly! LOL!
Ghostbusters, the company, wasn’t making much money during the years following the destruction of Gozer’s form on top of Spook Central. They can’t even afford to do vehicle repairs. Janine needed outside work. She had a taste of fame and fortune when GB were at their peak, and she didn’t want to quit the fat rolls of money and all the attention she got.
Janine became a SCORES girl in New York. Started out just working the tables at first but eventually got up on stage to start her real work. And like any classy joint she didn’t want to look like just any girl off the street, so she got a makeover. Mostly she dresses as a school teacher, due to the glasses, so there’s always some good Van Halen playing. Plus all the kids from NYU have become regulars vicariously using Janine for their own professor. They come from money so she’s making a killing compared to some of the girls there. Hence why she can now afford such more outlandishly expensive attire.
Nobody else noticed this?
It was a simple fashion choice. The Velma look was very “now” in 89.
Personally, I prefer GB II Janine. Way more feminine and her outfits showed off her figure more, gave subtle sex appeal. Her hair in the first movie was always a little too short for me.
