I DID attend an art school and this is exactly how people dressed… but it felt forced seeing it there, too. “Look at me I’m zany and wacky and my outfit shows that!” I get what they’re going for… but it just feels so forced. Yellow goggles? Zany hair? Painting overalls with just the PERFECT amount of paint splats. Combat boots? Which is particularly odd since the director stated they were going for an even MORE grounded-in-reality look to the film.
It’s just like everything about this movie… a group of people sat in a room and made a Ghostbusters checkoff list…
Really digging Mckinnon’s look in some of the photos from the New York sessions, especially having a waistcoat in her ensemble:
Subject to what her personality ends up being like, which we’ll get a better idea of later this year when the trailer hits the web, she’s quickly become my favourite so far out of the four reboot Ghostbusters.
As Skanker said, both her attire and body language; she appears to be having a lot of fun on the production, and visually is proving the most memorable.
There were a bunch from that sequence, which were from the session shot outside of Hook & Ladder 8.
I have seen some cosplayers copying a couple of looks of McKinnon already. None copying MM, Wiig or Jones. So McKinnon’s character is winning from a popularity standpoint.
On a side matter, why does Leslie Jones’s character always look angry in all these production photos?
That’s her shtick at least anything I’ve seen of her on SNL. In fact I think one of her characters is “Angry Black Woman” or something to that effect. Feig is probably having her stay in her comedic wheelhouse like he and no doubt McCarthy are
Are you familiar with her SNL work? Her style of comedy is frequently “loud and angry”. That’s why I was wondering how it would fit into a Ghostbusters movie.
Ivo, it’s like I said, Feig stays in his comfort zone so I doubt he’ll have his principles go outside theirs. Jones will be loud and angry, McKinnon will be an over the top characture, Wiig will be the pissy unlikeable one, just like Bridesmaids and McCarthy will be the obnoxious, clumsy one.
Maybe…but then the original Ghostbusters never really went outside their comfort zones either, with the possible exception of Harold Ramis, who had never played a character like Egon before. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson played their usual type characters.
I, personally, have never been able to stand Kate McKinnon in SNL… I just find her annoying. I don’t know what it is, but she rubs me the wrong way every-time she is on screen.
That being said, it seems like her character is WEIRD enough that it might actually work… I’m just hoping I don’t have to think about how much she bugs me after the movie is over.
Jones I was never a big fan of either, but I think that’s just because SNL’s writers only ever gave her one job. “Be Loud” Hopefully she has some more room to show us what she’s made of here.
