Well hello there. This is my take on proton pack lights.

*Disclaimer:

My light kits were not originally intended to be fully featured light kits with all requisite bells and whistles.

They will continue to evolve as I learn new techniques and have time to implement them.

I won’t make any claims to screen accuracy. Some aspects are, some are not. I have certainly taken some creative liberties. Do some research and come to your own conclusion. Dimensions are available for your reference.*

Pack Light Kit v8 - $65

Includes:

Power cell with 15 gorgeous blue LEDs

4 red cyclotron LEDs (*some assembly required)

Master power switch

Optional video game style cyclotron fading (user-selectable)

Optional start-up sequence (user-selectable)

Interacts with v8 wand kit when connected via CAT5 cable

Lights speed up when firing, overloads after 12 seconds

Runs on 9-12V DC

Click for dimensioned drawing.

Overkill Cyclotron Lights - $25

  • 48 (less bright) red LEDs instead of the standard 4. yikes.

  • compatible with older kits (instructions coming soon)

  • 12V battery highly recommended

Wand Light Kit v8 - $85

Includes:

Bar graph - three styles to choose from

  • Continuous yellow (like v1-v7 bar graphs)

  • Segmented yellow

  • Segmented amber

Optional startup sequence (user-selectable)

5 auxiliary LEDs (*some assembly required)

Vent lights built into main circuit board

Multi-colored barrel lights

Video game style firing sequence

5 switches included (only 3 connect to the kit, the other two are for cosmetic purposes, *some assembly required)

Runs on 9-12V DC

There is now a Do It Yourself element which requires wire strippers and pliers at a minimum for BOTH kits. This is very easy to do, but I will do it for you for an extra $5.

Here are the instructions

image

Overkill Vent Lights - $10

  • 9 white LEDs positioned to shine through the vent slots on your gun box

  • plugs into v6 and v7 gun kits

  • Requires 9.6V or 12V battery

Aluminum Mounting Spacer Set

image

Standalone Barrel Lights - $15

  • for upgrading my v1 and v4 wand kits, or just to use by themselves

  • four LEDs (red, blue, white, yellow) that light up your barrel when firing

  • Round PCB is 0.8" in diameter and fits up against the 7/8" clear part of your barrel. It needs to be glued in place.

  • orange ear light is connected to barrel lights

  • includes standard pushbutton switch (black)

Combo

  • Includes both pack and wand kits, plus an 7ft cable to connect the two (for battery sharing and interactivity)

  • regular: $150 + shipping (pack kit and regular wand kit)

Sound Kit

Mine is not ready for prime time. I recommend Crix’ sound board. Must use DPDT switches to make it work with my lights right now.

Trap Kit

Maybe some day :stuck_out_tongue:

Wand Bar Graph Frames and holders

image

From left to right:

Aluminum frame - $6

Plastic v1-v7 bar graph frame and holder - $8

Plastic v8+ bar graph frame and holder - $15

The plastic holders hold the bar graph in place as well as provide a nice cosmetic frame. Both require painting.

These can now be purchased here: Shapeways & Thangs Marketplace for 3D Creators - Shapeways Blog

The aluminum frame is cut with a water jet and will sit on the flat face of the wand and go around the bar graph. It is NOT designed to have the bar graph LEDs actually go inside the frame, although it’s possible with some light filing. The bar graph should be flush with the face of your gun box. This will also help to cover up any shoddy hole cutting that may have occurred. You may wish to sand or file more, but for many people this will be ready to paint.

Click for dimensioned drawing.

This is not guaranteed to fit perfectly with other kits.

None of these are screen accurate, but a decent visual approximation. In any case, they help give the bar graph a clean look.

Note: the aluminum frame and the plastic frame/holders do not work together, it’s one or the other. The geometry of the aluminum frame is included in both of the plastic holders.

Customization

If you want something out of the ordinary, just let me know and if it’s feasible we’ll work something out.

I have done different light sequences and LED colors for some people.

Remember that the cyclotron and auxiliary gun lights can be easily replaced with different LEDs of your choice.

Limited supply of extra parts for sale:

image

  • Red/clear Cliplite LED cover - $2 for 2 red, 2 clear (or just 50 cents each)

image

  • Dixie-style v-hook - $5

  • red and blue acrylic for power cell and cyclotron - $5 per set

Wiring Diagrams

You can use any battery (from 7 to 18 volts) and any switch you want. There are screw terminals for each connection so no soldering is involved there. Each kit can be operated with a battery and a switch, OR you can wire them together and run them off the same battery and switch. PM me or post here with questions.

edit: almost forgot! I’m putting together a tutorial for making your own lights right HERE

Alas, I know the music but lack the funds to place an order. I get paid later in the week, but someone may guess by then!

Looks awesome! :crunch:

Build some wand lights!!!

<<<<<<<DOES WANT!

Here, here!

I’m really looking for something to set off that’ll make my wand flash when I fire it.

I’m already set up with all the other lights with custom job I made from a sequential LED kit designed for train sets.

Just putting out interest on wand flashies at a more affordable price than what’s out there now! Your Pack light set price is great btw…

G

Put me down for a kit!!

  • Tony

If you wire up a DPDT switch for your firing button, you can have both the sound system and a completely stand-alone nozzle light system to activate when pressing that baby in.

Gotta be some kinda toy I can cannibalize for an easy strobe effect.

See if you can find those dinky little lightsaber key chains that gamestop would give out with star wars preorders.

They usually have a few mini LEDs inside that flash wit hthe same effect.

I have one from KOTOR that flashes RGB and I might use it for my gun.

They run on 4.5v

well thanks for the kind words, guys! I still have a few left for those interested.

I also might be tinkering away on some basic wand lights…

Just got mine. Work as advertised, Surprisingly bright.

If you were to make a gun light kit, and I could fit it in the ol’ budget, I’d be interested.

Preferably integrating the power-on lights with this existing kit so all lights but the barrel lights are on a single circuit controlled by one pole on a DPDT switch.

Oh, wait, there seems to be a triple-pole switch (3DPT) out there. Anyhoo, interested in seeing how you pull it off.

Got mine last week. They are beautiful! Sadly, your lights, and my name badge are the only two things that I have thus far. (My alice pack as well but I have to exchange the shoulder straps). Great job man!!!

-s

I got mines too! Working nicely thus far! Good set up! I like it

Just checking in to see if a gun set is out.

I’m actually on the market for a simple set of 2 or 3 flashers (maybe yellow, blue, and red) for the gun barrel to use on my 3 polled DTPT momentary switch when I’m firing the thrower sound.

Trying to talk proptronics into throwing something small and simple together that would run off 4 volts, but I’m paying anyone willing and reasonably priced!

G

For anyone interested…the gun lights are still a couple weeks away and I wasn’t planning on doing a fully featured gun light kit, I’m making some “budget” gun lights…basically just the moving light bar and LEDs around the gun. I guess I have no interest in pretend firing when no proton stream comes out, even if the barrel lights up, so that’s how my kits are gonna be. So you’ll have to hit up proptronix or Exoray if you want the full chibang. Barrel lights are cool and all, just not my thing.

But Gaval, PM me about your particular situation, perhaps we could work something out.

Hell yeah, I’m up for a budget Thrower Kit.

All I would want is the orange light bar and a few lights on top. Oh and the Ability to turn the pack lights on from the Thrower. But thats easy.

Hey Devo! If I’m not asking an annoying question, when are you gonna have light kits in stock again? I’m very much interested in buying!

Eventual upgrade after Halloween…but I can’t wait to get one of your pack light kits. Love the way you setup the lights for the startup sequence.

Hey back! I think I’ll have some more available mid-October, a couple weeks from H-Day. Gotta concentrate on real life the next couple weeks, then I’ll be in the clear.

Thanks BigJon!

Got mine in Friday. Man, they’re bright! Job well done, R2!

bump!

new kits available. I haven’t had time to make lots of documentation, please ask questions here or PM

Video to come.

This is my first attempt at some gun lights, they’re pretty basic, not perfect, but good enough for me. maybe for you too.

edit: new video up

like last time, $5 off to first customer to tell me where the music is from. This one is way more obscure.
