I finished my proton pack just in time for halloween last year and it has just been on display since. I am of course planning on wearing it this year, but i would like to make it light up. I do plan on getting my hands on one of the hyperdyne labs kits, but ill have to save up for that. My question is what is the cheapest/most effective way to light up my pack for this coming holiday season. My pack has a hollow shell, is movie accurate and is just begging to light up. Any suggestions? Is there a battery powered lighting product that works decent?
If money were no object, I’d suggest exonay. I’ve seen the light kits he offers on these very boards. But since you want an inexpensive way, I’m drawing a blank. Sorry about that.

If you just want some lights and blinks the get a generic light sequencer kit at one of the many electronics kit sites… Or kit bash some Halloween lights you find at Wal Mart or some auto detail lights you find at the local auto parts store…
A workable option might be to get some battery-powered Christmas lights. Considering that many retailers are already putting up their Christmas stuff, you just might luck into a set if you don’t have any in your attic or garage.
If you can’t find any Christmas lights and you’re just dying to have some kind of lighting, buy 2 orange or red glowsticks and 1 blue glowstick. Just before you head out for the night, snap the glowsticks and put the blue one inside the power cell. Get some duct tape and tape the orange/red sticks inside the cyclotron in such a way that each stick shows up at 2 of the red lenses.
The glowsticks should last all night and well into the next day, but if you’re going to go out more than once with the pack lit up, you’ll definitely need more glowsticks.
It’s low tech and works best in dim light, but it does work! I did it last year. Assuming you’ve got a roll of duct tape handy, the glowsticks should run less than a dollar a piece at Wal-Mart. (DON’T get suckered into buying the expensive Coleman glowsticks from the sporting goods department! They’re identical to the 88-cents-each glowsticks found in the toys and Halloween aisles.)
blinking red lights from radio shack. go to pep boys and get a blue bar graph. runs off 12 volts. wire to toogle on gun or pack. 12dollars for the blue bar graph and about 2dollars a piece for the red blinking. look at my pics thats what i used
For the cheap and quick option - go to Walmart and pick up a pack of battery powered christmas lights. I got a set last year and they actually have 8 different flashing patterns to choose from.
Here’s a video of the set I bought last year. I just grouped them up into groups of three and rubber banded them together. Makes for a pretty bright light and they even come in red.
They only cost 5 dollars a pop and the walmart in my neighborhood already has them on display. I’ll try to take some pics of the box when I get home tonight but as far as cheap cyclotron lights go - this is the way! Not movie accurate - but I bet nobody will notice!
