nifty idea i came up with for modifying the holster to fit matty traps, did this to just show the idea doubt i will actually use this method to build the holster concept. but ultimately add a second strap or more solid material to loop down and fit snuggly into the groove. thus securing the trap to your holster.
How about a form filling block that is attached to the holster and fits into the speaker cavity the strap would keep it against the holster and the block would keep it from sliding out.
its a possibility, i think my method may be the most secure method though

i wouldnt call it more secure. i dont intend on using that rubber twist tie to hold the trap. it was just a visual aid to get my point across. if you take wood and attatch it to the holster in a similar shape the trap will fit in. furthermore some people really dont want to alter the trap (myself included) not to mention i dont see how it could role fine that v hook looks like it sticks pretty far out form the wheels. (i could be wrong)
First I’m the one who did the mod this is ten times more secure the the modded trap holsters with all the added brackets IMO people are overthinking it, if you want it on you belt put four screws in it and done but if you don’t want to mod it you may as well keep it on the shelf for display and with the hook and plate this thing still rolls on carpet as well.

not dissing your idea. and yeah it is more secure then L brackets.but the brackets are not a bad idea either especially if its a decent alternative to modding the trap and still getting it on the holster though, and some people want that alternative.
Do you get these V-hooks sourced locally? If not, I would need just a temp way of getting me through a Halloween party or two until I can mod this more permanently. As long as I can find a way to hook it to my belt, I don’t think anyone out this weekend is going to be looking for accuracy. At the same time though, I don’t need it to fall off and break $130 of plastic.
Correct me if I am wrong, but with your method you only have the regular strap across the doors of the trap, and the cord/rubber/whatever your are gonna use to go under the trap into the groove. Is that right?
I think the L brackets on the holster look tacky IMHO they stick out and without there being a bend it to lock into place i guess you could say it can slide of just as easy, i like what you came up with at least it can slip into the groove to hold it more securely.
I honestly like the look of the L bracket holster, but I think slimershomie’s method is the best/most screen accurate and I will eventually do that to my trap (but I’m leaving unmodded for a while) . This cord idea does seem a bit more secure than the brackets, but they all have there strengths and weaknesses.
Slimershomie method is screen accurate, but means modding the trap.
jme1979’s holster looks very professional, and I think looks good with the trap removed, but I’m worried of the trap kicking far enough forward to come off the brackets(maybe I’m just a worry wort).
Shaun Popa’s idea seems more secure but IMO doesn’t look as good (of course I go for security over looks anyway).
Cyland Props idea is really good too giving the closest to screen accurate without modding the tray (in theory anyway, I’d love to see it in practice)
and since the purpose of the thread is un modded trap holstering ideas, this has been a great collection of plans, great job guys
i was just using the cord to showcase my idea, i really have no intentions of using the cord. when i get time i will sit down and see if i can put something better to actually show it off.
Actually, if you read through his interest/sale thread (linked a few posts ago), he’s been refining his ideas a bit more, to include a lip on the L-brackets to prevent just that.

In my experence over thinking things is really easy to do. My idea a form filling block that is attached to the holster that fits into the speaker cavity and the strap would keep it against the holster and the block would keep it from sliding out, works well without bungies or L-brackets.
