So now that Mattel is releasing their version of the Neutrino wand, are any builders out there going to buy it? I just finished my proton pack and I am debating on it. I mean, my wand looks pretty damn good but as a collector I am having a hard time turning my attention away. What do you guys think about it?
I think after the cool PKE, cooler ghost trap and then mild dissapointment on the accuracy of the Ecto goggles I will still have to buy this wand assuming they aren’t sold out… I’m just happy they are making the toys 29 years later. I would say 129.00-159.00 is a great price for something with lights, sound and a vibration motor.
I’ll be sitting this one out for obvious reasons. They could have won me over with the extending tip and the electronics but the clear tube is white and oddly shaped and the electronics were a total let down. Not animating the bargraph as it does in the film was a huge mistake IMO.
The electronic features in this disappointed us, so we decided this is a pass for us. I’m pretty sure they are going ahead with a pack now as well, and am 100% confident that they’ll make sure the guns are available again if needed for the pack.
Depending on what they do with the combo, we’ll consider them once we know what they are planning.
Fan made versions, not to mention the entire proton pack, will always be better versus a commercial production. It’s okay for those not huge on screen-accurate details but not 20+ years fans.
I think the thing that makes the PKE and even the trap stand out is that besides hitting a fairly decent physical accuracy, they brought functionality that was missing from the fan made props, but IMO both form and function have suffered more and more since the PKE release, moving further and further away from what I thought the line was initially intended to be.
In the past I wrote a blog entry (long before the Ecto Goggles came out, we all knew they had to be next) about the order Mattel should make these “prop toys” in. While the nutrona wand would be more fun, I thought they should have made a belt gizmo after the Ecto Goggles. I did suggest the nutrona wand could be sold separately, I didn’t know if Mattel would want to do that. Of course as long talked about amongst us, we know a proton pack could be costly.
I’ve been a fan of ghostbusters ever since it came out and I think this wand looks awesome. Not every fan is big on accuracy. Some fans wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and a screen accurate gun. For the price I think it’s well worth it. I know of a lot of gb fans that would love to have something like this or any of the gb products from Mattel. I for one can not wait to receive my wand.
I watched a review from Pixel Dan on Youtube and the wand looks pretty clean but…the electronic components seem like a letdown. The way the bar graph just sits there is sad, most of the compliments I have received are because of the moving bar graph. Also, the vibration makes a noise that masks the sound effects we all know and love. It would be nice to have another proton pack though. Maybe I’ll just get this one and hold onto it until Matty Collector announces a proton pack.
I saw that vid also. The only thing that I don’t like about the gun is how loud tge vibration motor is. It seems really loud. It may just be the way I am hearing it off the computer but it does sound loud to me. Other then that I still can’t wait to get mine.
I too will be passing. 1. I don’t have the money and 2. it looks too toy like. Especially for what you pay for it with shipping. Plus as much as I loved the trap, I ended up selling it because it literally sat either in a box or on a shelf, which is what this would do. I’m also curious to see how many of these start showing up in builds.
I would love to have the trap but I missed out on it when it went on sale. I was at Fort Lewis for awhile and I couldn’t get to a computer to order one, now there’s around $400 on eBay. Hopefully Mattycollector will re-release it soon.
I think the Matty wand can be converted into a pretty accurate prop/toy. A light kit alone will run you 100-150 dollars. not to mention the sound board. If they decide to make a pack I can see them cutting some major corners. I have a hard time seeing Mattel converting the ally frame and straps into a toy.
That is exactly what I’m thinking to do with my sons pack (the one on the right)- I’ll be able to get rid of the junky wand I whipped up in an hour or two and he will get sound to boot. I’m even thinking of rerouting the matty audio output into an amp & speaker for more pow.
Guys, Garree’s speaking in plural pronouns again… we’ll need an old priest and a young priest.
But this part of “we” picked one up. It’s no replacement for the couple of throwers that I’ve built and I’m not going to swap it out onto either of my packs – but at the same time, its features and functionality are too cool to pass up (much the same reason that I picked up the Matty trap). No comparison to something like Throwing Chicken has created which is more of a screen-accurate prop than a mass-produced toy, but at the same time $130 worth of fun and smiles. Pretty easy and quick purchase for me.
I missed the GB Fans purchase op but at 9:17am on Monday I was able to order one. I think I would rather let my 5 year old son run around the back yard shooting ghosts with this than my $980 fan built setup (plus he can’t carry the 40lb pack anyway). I see it as a toy company is actually doing the research and making this stuff for people who still love the Ghostbusters movie and the loose science concepts it proposes… also I just needed it.
